I like the hood on the Sylph of Breath especially. It's so crazy. xD But, we do have all the canon outfits. And I think we saw another heir with the windsock hoodie, but I'm not sure. Er, not that one can't have that headcanon. I'm just kind of particular about canon, heh. ^^;;
ok i just had a brainwave, what if the shoe color is more than a simple swap with the color of the aspect next to it? inversion theory sort of still works as a concept without the fanon(?) concepts of which aspects are opposites, like the ever popular doom and life headcanon(?). forgive me if those are actually canon, i assume inversion theory is based off of people's private analysis. just thought of this because hope and doom being opposites makes more sense to me than life and doom. idk i'm not very good at personal analysis of stuff like this. was it already like this and im remembering the inversion theory wrong?
Oh, would anyone like to help me with figuring out a fantroll's ancestor's class? The fantroll is a Rogue of Void, so her ancestor (The Mistress, aka Mefiri) is a something of Void. Spoiler: character history below the cut As a child, Mefiri, a ceruleanblood, is taken from her lusus and sold into slavery to a seadweller adult in like, the Troll equivalent of Egypt or Morocco. I don't know why this happens - I figure she committed some minor crime or pissed someone off, or something. In any case, she's living among other slaves and servants, many of whom are local rustbloods. From them, she learns a lot about herbs and all sorts of tribal dances, like Ghawazi and Mapouka and Raqs Baladi. As she grows, she comforts newcomers, seems generally understanding, and helps keep a lot of her fellow slaves safe from their masters. She gains a loyal group of followers that only strengthens as the trolls who took care of her as she was younger die off and no longer hold authority over her. She and some of her fellows start changing their clothing styles and combining the dances and turning them into something more 100d. This intrigues their master, who has them preform a show. Said master drops dead at the end of the show (as Mefiri poisons him during the course of the dance, with a tiny needle woven into her clothes). The slaves take advantage and run. Mefiri and her group of followers escape together and form a dance troupe under Mefiri's direction. They perform for highbloods, and if occasionally one of the highbloods watching their performance dies mysteriously afterwards, well, then obviously one of their rivals took them out. Mefiri wears lowblood colors and contacts, allowing the trolls who hire them to discount her. The dance troupe becomes so popular and prestigious that Mefiri is able to start a school, going around and recruiting young trolls of all genders and hemocastes. At this school, they learn to dance, sure - but they also learn to essentially act as a spy and assassin, seducing trolls, gathering information, playing trolls against each other, planting information to make politics go their way, and sometimes poisoning or garotting specific targets. At the heart of it, Mefiri, now known as The Mistress, pulls on her students strings. They all report back to her with their findings, and she gives them assignments. For something like 70 years, Mefiri, with the help of her spy network, controls most of the politics on Alternia. However, someone eventually either figures it out or betrays her, because a group of highbloods attempt to assassinate her. They believe they have succeeded in killing her, but instead kill a lookalike. This group spreads the word, and all of Alternia believes she's dead. Mefiri vanishes, but her school "goes on without her" (in reality, everyone reports to the new leader of the school, and that person reports to Mefiri). Even long after her reported death, rumors abound in highblood circles that she's still around, manipulating events. Occasionally, when a noble dies, others whisper that The Mistress was responsible for it. Essentially, Mefiri becomes a ghost story while still alive, which only granted her more power. I figure that she dies sometime after adults are banished from Alternia, allowing her to form her spy network amongst the Fleet while staying planetside. I imagine that she passes on the reins to someone else, too, so the Mistress's title and spy network continue on in a Dread Pirate Roberts fashion. I've been thinking she might be a Mage or a Witch or a Knight, because she manipulates the darkness in her targets in order to get what she wants/defend herself and her dancers (and then later, she literally becomes a ghost story and hides out in the shadows), but I really don't know.
first things first: duuude what a cool character! secondly, she seems more rouge or thief-y to me? thief implying she steals more for herself, rouge is stealing for others. and stealing the void itself seems very much like what a spy or assassin would do.
Inversion is a theory, yes, specifically spawned by user bladekindeyewear. I always felt they were pretty spot on with their pairings, myself, but it's a hugely open ended concept so...
@Deresto I'm pretty sure inversion falls into the category of very non-canon actually, as in, Rachel has explicitly stated that it isn't a thing (I mean, there might be things Hussie hasn't told her, but I'm going to assume it isn't a thing until it's mentioned in the comic, or by Hussie himself) I personally think it makes sense for each aspect to fit into more than one pair or opposite, depending on which meaning for the aspect you're talking about For example, Mind as Decision can be the opposite of Light as Luck or Fortune, while Mind as Logic can be the opposite of Heart as Emotion, and Light as Information can be the opposite of Void as Secrets Basically, all aspects are canonically vague and have multiple possible meanings and interpretations, and I would love to hear why you think Hope and Doom are opposites, because they probably can be, but Doom and Life can too (I think Hope is typically paired with Rage, which I don't quite understand. It kind of looks like a case of "pair the spares" to me)
I think Caliborn WOULD be an outlier, though, more for symbolic reasons than because of anything in HIS character - he opposes the muse. The same is true of his being shitty at art. Nai comes late to every thread, wowie.
honestly even using the concept of the shoe colors on the canon god tiers, there are still a few pairs that seem like they are just "pair the spares", even in just coincidence. i don't see how blood and rage, or breath and light are opposites. the reason i thought doom and hope were a good opposite was because the literal definition of doom is "an especially adverse fate" and i focused on the fate bit. doom is the aspect of fate, of destiny, of ends. the literal definition of hope is "the feeling that what is wanted will turn out for the best", or to put it simply, a disbelief that fate has to be the way it is. hope eradicates doom, and doom eradicates hope. they can't coexist. maybe that's why sollux and eridan didn't get along?
similarly, life and void being paired made sense too, seeing as life is categorized by existence, and void is nonexistence. saying doom is death and death is opposite of life always felt a bit reaching to me, because death is a PART of life, not its opposite. can you tell im very literal minded? its why i usually let others do the analyzing haha.
Okay and now on the subject of Nai's claspect... 1993 AND DEFINITELY NOT A SYLPH REPRESENT. Okay but more seriously, I danced between Seer and Mage of Blood a lot in my early Homestuck period, but I no longer really feel attached to them (especially the class). I do wonder a bit if I'm doing the facade thing hard enough to be a knight. That aside, the character I was really attached to in rp at the time is a Maid of Doom (accept no substitutes) and even after four years I'm still very attached and joke sometimes that he's my persona. I tend to attach strongly to characters and only realize how like me they are later, so that really is a helpful point of analysis. The other character I've been adhered to mentally is a Prince of Light, but that's specifically for narrative reasons within his canon and I'm less sure how feel it would fit outside of it. Thoughts welcome.
I always felt that Void made most sense as the opposite of Space, because Nothingness and Somethingness. Time and Space doesn't make sense to me, because, well, they're different, and sort of related, but they're not similar enough to be opposites. That might be a bit of a paradox. What I mean is, basically, they're not in the same category I feel kind of the same way about Breath and Light, but I've never seen those two paired as opposites before. I don't think most theorists use shoe color to determine oppositeness, because that stops making sense very quickly... I don't think the meaning aspects are meant to be the literal meaning of their names. Light, for example, is both Luck and Information, but has, as far as I can remember, never been stated to mean literal light (tho it might, the comic is far from over)
i dont know why, but this phrase is giving me Knight vibes. not necessarily in a protective way, but just, in a "this seems like something karkat/dave/latula might do, but just the 'i tend to strongly attatch to ________ and only realize ________ later," sort of way. like, imput 'romcoms' and 'the fact that relationships have to do a lot with the blood aspect' for karkat. i know that's not really a good way to analyze and has gotten bladekindeyeware's analyzations a lot of flak before.
that makes sense, i didn't mean to imply i thought they were just the literal meanings. my brain just has a REALLY hard time understanding concepts. it's really why i started this thread, i love hearing everyone's ideas and theories explained in excruciating detail, otherwise i have to nod my head and pretend i get it...plus i love hearing people talk and talk about things they are interested in.
specifically on this bit - i really enjoyed the whole aranea bit with jake, not because of what she did which i kind of think was a very bad move, because she took the idiom "showing someone the light" to a whole new level ^u^
I figure Hope and Rage pair as belief/possibility/actualization and doubt/fear/restriction. But it's hard to say, since most of the evidence for Rage is via Gamzee, and he's been using chucklevoodoos and being used by the various sorts of mind control... ....My tablet's spellchecker knows chucklevoodoos.
Yeah, Rage is really hard to figure out In general it's kind of hard to figure out the aspects that doesn't have a human kid, because which part is aspect and which part is paralells between dancestors? Classes are a bit easier, because they don't have that limitation, but more data=better results in any situation
Idk, I am not good at classpect stuff - I haven't read meta in a long time, there's too many variables to stick in my head very long. Stuff revolving around emotion and stress seems fitting. I tend to get Maid of Space.
So, would this be the thread for fan classing characters from other fandoms? Or would that go elsewhere? specifically RWBY and Runaways, if anyone's interested in making words with me
