Spoiler I actually just noticed she does have some vaguely triangular shadow on her forehead, which is probably either her gem or something that's made to look like one. She's still completely different from every other Gem we've seen so far, which is almost certainly significant. Also, someone on Tumblr pointed out something about the fake Connie in Open Book that's... Kind of a stretch so I won't repeat it, but it made me think. What the fuck is powering said room? I mean, now we know Rose has Big Diamond Energy or something, but still, it's weird.
Spoiler: I agree I think this is spot on. Either Pink or her Pearl did something that was seen as ""mischievous"" by White, and she just. Decided "eh, I can give her a new toy and take that one for myself". OR, maybe Pink's Pearl was somehow damaged, and White decided to, out of "charity", take Pink's Pearl for herself and give her her own Pearl? "ah, you broke it. Okay, here's a replacement. I'll fix yours and keep it." like a parent would do if it happened to their child's... set of keys to the house or something. There's one problem with this though: why did she keep Pink's pearl for herself? Why not just make herself a new one? Are Pearls hard to create?
Spoiler: about that last bit I kinda wonder if they might actually be, tbh. Note that Peridot mentioned hundreds of Pearls on Homeworld in Back To The Barn. That obviously seems like a lot, but in the context of a species that I doubt has any fewer than billions of people, many of whom are probably stationed on Homeworld...that's actually fairly scarce. They seem to be a status symbol as well--kinda equivalent to a really fancy car or something, rather than an average piece of tech (or, God forbid, actual sapient beings), I think. It could equally well be enforced scarcity, with a deliberately low number of Pearls produced, and I could just be reading into things a bit too closely as well, but the idea of Pearls being difficult to create makes a lot of sense.
Spoiler see that's part of why I think it might've been in response to Pink misbehaving--if White kept her Pearl, in kind of a "I will take your toys if you misbehave" way, it would be an even better reminder for "don't act out" if White kept the Pearl instead of just discarding her. also honestly, given how Pink seems to try to make conversation with our Pearl, I have to wonder if part of it might be Pink cared about her Pearl a bit more than most would, and White noticed that, and this is basically a thing of "look what I did to this thing you really cared about. remember what I can and will do if you keep stepping out of line." especially given Peridot's previous comment about how Pearls are basically a dime a dozen--I can't imagine they're hard to make? unless Diamond's Pearls are special in some fashion that DOES make them harder to create, but honestly I also just feel like, based on what we've seen of Pink's interactions with Pearl and how White behaves, I wouldn't put it past White to have hurt the Pearl, made her into just an extension of White, and used her as a reminder of basically, like, "if I can personally trace your mischief back to you, someone or something you care about will pay and you will never get them/it back, at least not as themselves and not unharmed." ....also that is a little bit part of why I am Afeared for our CGs. like, White could totally see them as belonging to Pink--so if this theory I put up is accurate, and she also decides she needs to do something about Pink's latest "game", why wouldn't she use the CGs for that?
Spoiler y'know, I imagine being (presumably) the oldest Diamond, the brains of the operation, (her ship is head+shoulders, Blue and Yellow are her HANDS? Geddit?) she'd be a very busy gem. Maybe one who would need a veritable army of servants managing the minutae what I'm getting at is what if White has more than one Pearl and specifically chose this one to greet 'Pink' and 'her' entourage with Or perhaps even only mind-broke this one, using her as a literal mouthpiece to speak through as well as a statement to all gems: not even her baby sister can get away scot-free and if any of you clods plebs step out of line, well you don't have any pretty toys for her to take away. You're not getting off near that easy.
Well fuck. Spoiler White is... Just frozen light? She's like she reformed with only her face (and Grecian ruins heels lol) and just left the rest undetailed. And she's Old. So, so, old. I'm glad we met her, and also terrified. Had anyone else watched Mirrormask? Her attitude and the clockwork theme of her Pearl made me think of the Black Queen. I guess I'm glad she didn't bother to mind-whammy Steven back into obedience, but...urgh. And even Blue and Yellow are scared of her! Christ, I think I'd piss myself just being in the same room as that thing. She's the most eldritch thing in the series so far, and I'm glad they went for that rather that something more knowable. I'mma have nightmares about her, I just know it. One of my biggest triggers is people like that, who take away all your autonomy and then tell you it's for your own good D: And yes, I'm glad we got to see Nephrite in her uncorrupted form! Its cool to see gems that are more alien-looking - I know we have Sapphire in the cyclops squad, but her gem isn't her single eye - I wonder what the rest of Nephrite's crew look like, since presumably they're not all eye-placement.
Spoiler It's possible, but the diamonds refer to her as "White Diamond's Pearl", which implies she's her only or at least main one.
Also Spoiler AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO THINKS LEAVING BISMUTH AND LAPIS ALONE TOGETHER IS A BAD IDEA??? D: I mean its small potatoes and Peridot and Greg will be there to get between them, but I really, really don't want to think what will happen if Lapis reforms and has time to recognize Bismuth as the one who poofed her way back in the gem war and set off her Trauma Conga Line. I mean it all got wiped away with 'HOLY SHIT HOMEWORLD' and 'HOLY SHIT WHITE DIAMOND' but ummmmm that was a massive I Have A Concern moment there for me (:
Spoiler Yeah that's why I went for the mouthpiece thing; not just using Pink's old pearl to greet 'Pink' but as her main 'face' Pearl, the one the empire sees, as a message.
Spoiler honestly I'm not sure white even notices pink and what she does enough to tailor anything like that to her. She just seems to expect things to go her way and when they don't, she just ignores them and carries on as normal. Pink is her dear mischevous youngest diamond, who will ultimately of course listen to her, so she doesn't even recognize that rebellion was a thing that happened.
I have a very brief/vague theory regarding those two. Spoiler I think White Pearl started out as a normal Pearl serving either White Diamond or a lower ranking gem. “Something” happened, and White Pearl got hurt. She lost her eye somehow, as opposed to being born “defective.” She didn’t want to be a servant anymore. She didn’t want to be hurt. So White Diamond found her and said “don’t worry, little one, I’ll fix you.” :) And then White Pearl was perfectly happy and obedient ever since :)
Spoiler: New ep spoiler for some reason my favorite line was Yellow’s “Why are you doing a voice?!” Like that is such an annoyed big sister question omg On the other hand I am dreading the Discourse about “making friends with nazis” or shit like that. I love how steven put up w exactly 0% of their shit, he’s inhumanly kind but he has a spine of steel And godddd just the cinematography with white diamond was fucking perfect. I legitimately shivered at that close up of her lips Spoiler The other diamonds said she hasn’t left homeworld in eons, right? That is either an indeterminate amount of time seperated by great geological shifts or a billion years. Since she left. There’s always been a lot of talk about how to the gems, the fifteen years since Rose’s death haven’t been long at all- but to WD, 6000 years is nothing. It’s like your toddler having a brief tantrum in a toy store. God
Spoiler I mean. There sure did seem to have been some great geological shifting on Homeworld relatively recently.
Spoiler I feel like diamonds maybe are impossible to shatter by anything less than maybe white diamond herself. So when yellow and blue came to her upset that pink was shattered she would of thought it cute that they fell for their sister's trick. She doesn't correct them because it will be a valuable learning experience when pink comes back in a few thousand years
Spoiler i think White’s Pearl might be a holo-pearl. Between the t-posing, the emotional flatness, the weird voice and the walking through walls. Of course, this leaves the question about where she actually is
http://sanctferum.tumblr.com/post/176200533237 because we need a little levity in this time of eldritch horrors
Spoiler She must've thought that Blue's grief was just her acting a bit childish, a behavior that she needed to learn to not do anymore
Spoiler Hmm, if White considers herself like their mother, maybe Blue is equivalent to just-turned 20 and Yellow is young 22?
Spoiler: diamond ages Blue and Yellow are each like 70 and White is an Ancient like even if we go for human terms I feel like white really doesnt register
