    my other new nailpolish!

ILNP "Mega". ITS SO SHINY Y'ALL. like omg. that pic was taken outside in natural light, and it captures the massive amount of rainbow-y-ness... but it also makes it look kind of grainy which is not the case IRL. the Missed Calls looked like glitter suspended in black polish, but the sparkles in this one are much finer grained and the shine looks more satiny or silky in person.

overall: if you're looking for a good holographic nail polish, ILNP seems to be fucking nailing it.

further update about ILNP's "Mega": i've been wearing it now for 4 days and it's barely chipping at all! my dominant hand has a couple tiny chips that i have to look very closely to even notice. my off hand has no chipping at all. damn, ILNP, where have you been all my life!

worth noting that i do have a topcoat on it-- i think it's the Sally Hansen strengthening topcoat-- which i'm sure helps. but i use this topcoat with EVERY nail polish i wear, and some of them definitely still chip within a day or two. (i also have a basecoat on... i think the Orly bonder base? but again, i wear that with EVERYTHING and don't usually get results this good.)

oof. that's a tall order and is going to take most of a day at least, an incredibly steady hand, four colors of glitter, and some tools. I'm not an expert by any means, but here's what I would do if i wanted to punish myself that much for aesthetic.

layer one is black fingernail polish. paint on a couple coats and let dry completely. layer two is glitter. you're going to need four colors of hexagonal glitter, all of the same size. spread them out on a paper plate or something similar. one at a time, pick them up with a damp paintbrush, a stick of white or clear eyeliner, a wax pencil, or something similar. then dab a tiny, tiny bit of nail glue on the back and stick them down in position, all of one color at a time, moving down your nail in rows. finish each nail off with a layer or two of clear coat and enjoy. You might need a friend to help you do your writing hand

Oof. Best I can think of is use a gel type that needs an LED light to cure. Paint your base coat, zap it long enough to be tacky but not totally set, affix your glitter and zap it again to cure, then top coat and cure that.

probably cleaner than nail glue. either way, it's going to take a few hours, minimum

Sounds like my best bet would be going to a nail salon then maybe? God knows how much I would have to pay for that but...better to pay and have it be nice then recreate what I did before (think like baby's first nail polish kind of bad)

alternatively, you could do it on acrylic nails because then you can pop em off when you need a break without actually getting rid of all the hard work

Oh yes this is true, however, having watched my fiance deal with acrylic nails I have yet to decide if I want to do That to my nails too.

there are a couple kinds of acrylic nails. I think the ones rats is talking about are the ones you buy in a pack at the grocery store and stick to your nails with nail glue, not the liquid plastic you paint on your nails and harden into claws. You can get a pack of stick ons for a few bucks and a hand form for idk how much, and do the nails on the handform where you have both hands free to work with them. then when they're done, stick them to your nails.

To be honest same, they look incredible, but I've seen what happens when they come off with how weak the nail gets and all. I expect that to go badly for me.

If you get your fills done properly it shouldn't come off the nail or weaken it. Usually acrylics get fucked up because the fill isn't done right the first time, or you wait too long between fills to get it touched up. Once there's a gap from lifting, it's just a matter of time.

If you want to test out acrylics, I would get a test set and wear it for no more than 4 weeks. At the end of it, you can go back to the salon and either have them removed (which again, if done properly, should not harm or damage your natural nail. I want to emphasize the proper part because inexperienced or sloppy nail techs can really fuck up, so you may want to get referrals before picking a place to go to) or discuss whether or not you want to keep going, if they need a fill, and how long the tech thinks you can go between fills.

Length of time is going to come down to the individual. It depends a lot of how hard you are on your nails (if you work with water/scrub/scratch things with them as part of your job for instance) and how fast your nails naturally grow out.

testing out the manicure i'm gonna do for my cousin's wedding next week!

Essie "Chinchilly" and Kokie "Sparkler Send Off." i really like the Kokie polish-- it's a fine gold glitter with bigger flakes of pinkish rose gold glitter, and i love the color combo. it's a little thin, so if you wanted to do a full glitter nail it would take a lot of coats, but for something like this it's perfect!

I got my first set of liquid acrylics today! I wanted to have long nails on my birthday but my nails keep flaking because they're weak bs and this was the longest lasting solution they had. I'm supposed to go back in 15 days to see how often I'll have to do maintenance, and if I don't get used to their length/ thickness I can go back and get them filed and redone. I have to admit writing this on my phone is being a bit of a challenge

They are pretty nice! I was super nervous about the process but it's nice. I got this super simple mani this time but I'm thinking about getting something Fancier next time. Something with stencils. Or glitter.
