Sometimes I think Todoroki's character design was intended specifically to mess with fanfic authors who refer to characters by their hair or eye color.
The pettiest gripe I have with heroaca fanfic is that for a canon that includes a character who needs to be very careful with what his hands are up to, there is an awful lot of fic that cannot keep track of where everyone's hands are going
I have yet to find a Dragon Age Origins fic pairing F!Warden/Alistair deal with Spoiler: endgame spoilers the Old God Baby or Die situation which resolves things with Spoiler: thing I would rather see instead of thing that people write a three-way rather than footsie stomping and accusations of infidelity. My Warden loved Morrigan, OK? Maybe more in a “wrap you up in a blanket and keep you safe in front of the fire with a warm drink” kind of way than a “jump into bed with you” kind of way, but also maybe in a “I have no strong objections to loaning you my boyfriend for ritual sex purposes other than the way he feels about it, and also can I watch?” kind of way. ... quad-smearing ashen 3-way plz.
Spoiler: da:o while my alistair-mancing warden didn't get involved in a threesome she did fuck him immediately afterwards and get knocked up herself so her son was the Old God and not Kieran... mostly because it made me giggle when I thought of it
My fanfiction gripe is that the fics I want to read won't magically write themselves, so I have to do it myself.
My own annoyingly childish feelings about writing ships with characters who had canon SOs, even if I hated the dynamic between the canon pair. I tend to go "well, I didn't like them, but they weren't actually miserable together so I need to be able to give a reason they don't like each other like that here". I know that "they both met their other SOs in this 'verse before they met each other" is a perfectly reasonable one! I don't even believe in soulmates! I don't even hold other ficcers to this standard! It's a totally stupid standard!

People fucking realize that not everyone dates their highschool sweetheart forever, right? Or that not all serious relationships last, and that not every breakup has a good guy and a bad guy? And also if that someone has a shitty partner in canon you don’t have to completely rewrite the partner to be someone completely different. You can just....ship them with someone else.

there is so little ori and the blind forest fanfic like, there's more ori fanfic than steamworld fanfic? but i actually liked all the steamworld fic i've read not so much the ori fic
this is actually a fanfic comments gripe, but. I'm rereading a (very good) fic about a dude slowly falling in with a cult, and one person has commented on every single chapter something to the effect of "bluh, when's this character i like gonna show up?" They eventually honest to god write "that's it, I'm skipping chapters till this character shows up!" It's fucking buck wild that a thinking human being would write a comment every chapter about how the story isn't honestly engaging them and won't until a side character with nothing to do with the main narrative shows up, like???? And the worst bit is, I've read the whole story before, and that particular character only shows up in memories and hallucinations. I can only imagine how utterly disheartening those must have been for the author, like jeeze.
vague gripe: i'm fine with reading stuff that has to do with suicide when the character in question knows they'll come back (resurrection, regeneration, time loop shenanigans), but i'm not interested in reading fics that are like "Character X makes an unsuccessful suicide attempt and other characters comfort them/try to help them recover." i could filter out things tagged suicide, but a lot of fics in the former category still tag for suicide though, which like, does make sense, it's just not convenient for me, personally :P
