From what I understand (not even remotely an expert, but the Bean came up while I was reading about a different set of art installations) it's because it's not a public monument. It's an art installation, and just like how artists that are displaying in galleries have the right to ban photography and use of their work in third party advertising, he potentially has the same rights.

I have no idea if it's going to go anywhere, but I think he can claim that the NRA is required to pay him for unauthorized use of his artwork in their advertising.

Huh, interesting! I always assumed it was a public monument, since it's a huge-ass thing being displayed in public, but I guess that means he might have a leg to stand on.

I confess I don't 100% understand how it would work, but he does hold the copyright to it (which is a weird area and I only know anything beyond "plagiarism bad" as it relates to Canadian museums, which may be a whole other kettle of fish). It also wouldn't be the first time he (or other artists with public installations) went after someone who was using his artwork in a non-protected way, so the NRA can't argue that there's no precedent.

(I also agree about the Vantablack thing, btw.)

Been poking through research about the cultural context of the Bible recently, and it's really fascinating, but one thing is making me LOL. I already knew that the word usually translated as "little boys" in the Elisha story actually means "young men of low social standing", so basically a bunch of thugs, but also I just found out that the bears in question would have been Syrian brown bears, which are not that much bigger than a person and pretty docile as bears go. One person they could certainly do a number on, but the only way they could kill/injure forty-two humans is if the humans were standing still in a row, especially in a desert region with plenty of space to run. So now all I can picture is two she-bears bumbling around like the one on The Simpsons while these teenage thugs injure each other instead by fighting for the right to gain the honour of fighting a bear.

It didn't specify the exact number of bears, did it? It could have been, like. A bear army. God just has Elisha's back so hard against The Youth and their extremely hurtful bald jokes that he teleports in a super-elite task force of hundreds angry bears of various species from around the world. At the end of the bearalanche a single koala ambles through the carnage, not sure if it's supposed to be here.

Amusing, but no, it did in fact specify only two bears.

Agatha Christie describing the cover of a porn novel in Death on the Nile.
this is an incredibly agatha christie way to describe a smut novel cover.png
I'm not even sure why this is so funny to me. Maybe because you can feel the monumental authorial struggle between the desire to rib trashy romance novel covers as hard as possible and trying to keep her prose to its usual minimalism.
