I’m not sure I agree with it that happy families are the same, and I’m endlessly fascinated by the ways people manage to do it right and be good to each other, and to just fucking be there for each other. Good heavens, that’s beautiful. But the ways people are bad to each other, and manage to fail and do wrong by each other? Good heavens, that’s endlessly fascinating. I sure do love that awful. So I agree with that part.
I think it's great for there to be explorations of healthy family dynamics and unhealthy family dynamics and family dynamics that fall in the just somewhere in between that is hard to call. Imo, all of those things can be done fantastically. But when people say the equivalent of 'only healthy families are good to write in media' it gets me feeling down. Partially because it's way out of my experience and makes me feel like. Realistically? A bit more distant from the core of what 'humanity is really supposed to be' or even 'what a good person is supposed to be' (which, in this case, is living in a healthy family dynamic). I guess I also feel like sometimes people treat writing bad family dynamics as this thing that is only written for 'edge' or 'soap opera' effect, which I think simplifies it, and it can be done as I guess, but I don't care. I like to eat those family dynamics up. Then again, I guess I feel about unhealthy family dynamics the way I feel about a lot of unhealthy relationship dynamics. I think it's understandable if people prefer or love healthy dynamics best of all, but let me eat this.
Also, on a completely separate topic, I actually get really tired of people purposefully misspelling a character's name to show they don't like or care about them. I'm barely in Star Wars fandom and it bugged me about Kylo, and now in TDP I go into the tags and see a lot of variations when it comes to Viren. I don't know how to articulate what's so frustrating about this it's just... dismissive and annoying.
For me it's the open derision and disgust, as well as the power play that occurs with changing someone's name. Using names to mock in general is a Power Play.
I assume some of it on Tumblr is serving the double purpose of hiding it from the search function, but yeah, it gets... skeevy.
i was browsing a bunch of blogs because i remembered a ship i like exists, and it was good except for one person who reblogged that post thats like "people bitch about having to learn literary analysis in high school but maybe if more people were better at it we wouldnt have reylo shippers" or something like that basically saying "if you shits could ~understand~ the ~real~ messages in the story you would see that Actually I'm Right about shipping, and your Bad Opinions are solely because you hallucinated a Pure Wholesome Ship where there is only Worthless Trash" fuuuuuuck offfff tag your ships so you can curate your feed and dont make eye contact with the Bad Opinion Havers and get on with your day Edit: typos Edit: and on a sort of related point, ive just made a point to say "heartwarming" when i see something, well, heartwarming, instead of pure or wholesome, because it does feel weird to say that about like. Real people posting coming out stories or wedding stories (one recent example)
I feel like that exact post came up somewhere and somebody made a snarky comment about how if you think people are pulling Reylo out of their asses they are not the ones who are bad at analysis, but the search isn't picking it up in Tumblr.txt so maybe it was on FFA.
this trans headcanon makes sense but u keep yelling at people for using the canon pronouns and now i headcanon them as cis out of spite: a novel by me
the main stardew valley youtuber absolutely loathes the fact that there are characters in the game and takes constant unnecessary joke potshots about how worthless they are so, the videos, which are about interesting shit, are unwatchable
disclaimer that he has like 4,000 videos ive only watched maybe 20 about 15 of them had quips about how stupid the villagers are
Oof yeah. DF has nothing nice to say about anyone. Haley and Alex get their intelligence mocked a lot. Comments on Pam are very focused on her appearance and drinking problems and she comes up for every episode involving the desert.
To me it reads mostly like he's joking around about the (honestly quite terrible) NPC AI? Character interactions are a big part of the game, something a lot of people specifically play the game for, and in his mod videos that involve mods that add content to existing characters he usually implies that he likes the character in the first place. His attitude seems like it comes from having played the game over and over to mess around with the other mechanics; you see it a lot with people who play games like Skyrim too. As of the first game update, Gaster does in fact show up in game under some circumstances! The FUN value in a save file determines which random events you can encounter in a run, and three (the three Gaster followers directly reference him, the sound test room has his theme, and the "mystery man" disappears with the same otherwise unique effect as the gaster follower holding a piece of gaster). San's workshop also contains a reference to him. A lot of the characters in Undertale get very little explicit development - in fact, the two characters who have the most explicit influence on the plot aren't explicitly mentioned until the last few rooms of the game. However, on replay, it becomes immediately obvious they've been there in the narrative the entire time, unmentioned; you almost can't believe you didn't extrapolate their existence from the start. We are given most of our information about Undertale's characters by how they've affected the world around them. Gaster isn't really any different.
Well, from my point of view, if a character flatout doesn't show up in most playthroughs unless you start editing save files, then I don't count them as being in the actual game that most people will go through.
and really, gaster stuff is like. 75% of what comes across my dash. certainly there's WAY more of him than there is of, say, Undyne and Alphys. who are central characters with important arcs and scenes and the game's main/only romance.
I don't think there's more Gaster art than Alphys and Undyne? It probably depends who you're following because some people love the dude hardcore, but there's definitely more people who will casually draw art of either Alphys or Undyne than Gaster. However, there are artists who are focused on skeletons and Gaster, and they draw more involving him. Spoiler: Recent Undertale news That being said, especially recently there are large implications a second game will feature him.
talking to women with gay content anxiety is so tiring. I know you've Listened To Gay Men In Fandom and they told you "representation, not fetishization" and that having only gay PWP in your ao3 bookmarks is suspicious and now you're tweeting things like "we do not get to use another marginalized community as porn material where our own narrative is more important than the mlm perspective (4/9)" and I'm really sorry! I've seen lesbians bash big titty hentai f/f for being "by cishet men for cishet men" and I've seen gays bash hardcore dubcon m/m for being "by cishet women for cishet women" but suddenly they don't know nothing when lesbians and gays who love and make this sort of thing step up. in truth it's all about aesthetic preferences and imposing them on others, not some fundamental differences between our attractions. unless you're writing about systemic discrimination you don't need to tap into any mystical GAY PERSPECTIVE and honestly the notion is insulting.
