The one (common) spelling error that always throws me out of fanfic is lose/loose. They're just completely different sounding words to me so I'm jarred completely.
breath and breathe...... u take a breath..... u breathe also these two are more obscure and pettier but. you are not loathe to do something, you are loath to do something. 'loathe' is a verb, 'loath' is an adjective. it just means 'reluctanct' folks and. u 'champ' at the bit. yes champ literally means the same thing as chomp but the phrase is 'champing at the bit'
I wish they wouldn't use phrases like that in the first place, when neither the author nor the reader nor the characters have ever ridden a horse. The "metaphor" communicates less than just saying "impatient".

I mean, maybe it's just because I live in horse country, but I'd consider both "champing at the bit" and "raring to go" common enough that I wouldn't blink twice at their usage.
affect and effect is another one. they sound so different that i have no idea how you can get them mixed up?
Loval probable dyslexic again: because theyre only one letter off and its really hard to remember which spelliing goes with which sound. Too and to are the death of me as well
That one can vary by accent! If I'm slowing down and enunciating, the vowels are different, but if I'm moving fast, they both end up pronounced as [ə]ffect
'Chomping' is derived from 'champing', champing is one of those archaic words that's really only preserved in idiomatic use (like 'tis, fro, or shrift). The idiom remains "champing at the bit," though.
champing literally just means snapping your teeth, biting, etc. it means....... chomping. it's almost never used outside of the context of horses chewing on their bits
yeah, same here! even if i make an effort to enunciate, they... honestly don't sound very different in a canadian accent
oh someone brought up commas my actual least favorite form of punctuation because they have fucking chaos rules associated with them unless i know like what exactly the teacher wants i just kind of use them as i feel they are needed because it's not like the rules for the stupid things are actually 100% consistent
