I Suddenly Find Myself Needing to Know the Plural of Apocalypse (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)

...Apparently there's gonna be a reboot.

I'm not too optimistic about it, but I'm always up to see remixes of canon stuff that I like. I mean, if it turns out to be horrible I can just go back to watching the original show. So ... yay? I guess?

 

To be honest, I'm... Not looking forward to whatever it will be.

Especially if Whedon is still at the wheel, considering what a terrible person he's proven to be in recent years :/

Yeah, I don't question his ability to write snappy dialogue or fun characters or storylines with themes that are relatable and emotionally moving, and that's all well and good, but I'm extremely unexcited about the other stuff that's going to be there, the bits rooted more in his terribleness than his cleverness.

I haven't gotten a clear idea of how much he'll be involved from the few articles I've read, so maybe it won't be a lot? But who knows.

 

If it’s a revisit to the ‘verse rather than a full Names And Places Reboot, I’d be pretty keen on it... provided Whedon's hands were completely off the wheel. As it is, I'm just worried that if he's a producer, he'll be able to pull the same shit with the new actresses as he did Charisma Carpenter when she was on as Cordelia.

but if it's just "Buffy and co except it's 2019 instead of 1999" then... pass.

 

With Charisma, I remember hearing about him blowing the fuck up on her for daring to get pregnant, and that was actually one of the big 'joss whedon bad' things that used to run around for a bit; he was a pretty abusive director towards her, and given what his wife said about his history of affairs with coworkers and actresses in his productions, there's been a lot of concern about his behavior towards women who work with him.

 

I think this article covers a lot of it (content warning for discussion of rape in his TV shows). My understanding is that people have had issues with how he writes women from pretty early on, and it sort of came to a head recently when it was revealed that he'd been having multiple affairs with women he worked with/who worked for him, and lying to his wife when she suspected what was going on. Basically his attitude towards women is not as progressive as he makes it out to be, and it bleeds into his work in some disturbing ways.

 

A thought: Word of God confirmed that Angel and Spike did the do. But does Buffy know they did the do? I can't imagine she did, but I do like to imagine how she would react to finding out.

Presumably, though, it would depend on when she found out. Comics? Intrigued. S5-7? Very weirded out. S2-3? Probably outright disgusted. Angel would be all mopey and tortured about it, but I'm pretty sure Spike would get that supercilious sneer on his face no matter what Buffy thought. (It would probably turn him on if she was disgusted, come to think of it.)
