besides the fact that asriel is dead as a fuckin doornail at the end of undertale and toby fox has explicitly stated that you cant bring him back, his story is over, you have to move on

he's absent but apparently alive in deltarune. (im fairly certain our dark princeling is him. on the other hand, the name is too obvious an anagram. but he also looks really, really similar to toriel)
he's your brother.

toriel and asgore are separated.

undyne and alphys are apparently not an item.

the royal guard duo not being a couple could be them being private.

and kris' red eyes at the end.

i have the feeling that this is a bad timeline. it can't be set after the genocide ending because everyone is dead then, but perhaps a genocide happened somewhere in that timeline.

im pretty sure chara is stringing us along. the whole your choice doesnt matter? chara or flowey, for that matter, we dont get much in the way of chara characterization. the twitter thread pinged me as flowey, but it's somewhat off.

so at the very least, several things from the true pacifist route did not happen.

(also alphys being a fan of mew mew 2 when she utterly roasted it in undertale)

not only are undyne and alphys not an item, they don't even seem to know each other. i'd wager not only did the pacifist run not happen, but undertale didnt happen at all
...so, how big is the chance delta rune takes place in a world in which chara and asriel's plan worked?

(eta it's probably more likely this is a world in which they did get the correct amount of souls and broke the barrier that way, but...!

I was figuring it was an AU of some kind because of things like that - and Brattie and Cattie aren't friends, either. I also noticed Undyne still has both eyes. I was thinking that maybe the universe had deviated severely at some much earlier point or something, but of course it could have happened with Chara's plan/Asgore's plan working out. (Did you go south into the forest and see the mound with the big, mossed-over door? Looks suspicious.)

Sans still acts like Sans, but that we didn't actually get to see Papyrus makes me wonder if/how they're different. And will Gaster finally come up...?

On another note - the graveyard. I'm pretty sure those are the graves of some of the amalgam monsters - or what were the amalgam monsters in Undertale.

the prophesy in this one doesn't actually match the game
or rather
the heroes appear after the catastrophe - they don't prevent it. the earth cracks, breaths her last - and then the heroes appear ("at world's edge"). they "banish the angel's heaven". so if the heroes' true mission is to restore the world after it's been destroyed, and the "angel" is the same as from the prophesy in undertale---

They're still separated, I thought that happened after Asriel died? Oh well, maybe she decided to kick him out anyways

it might be asriel's heaven? humans and monsters share the surface, he's apparently super cool and well-liked (all the trophies above the bed, catty and bratty both being like "REMEMBER WHEN I KISSED YOUR BROTHER HAHA") and now off to university to see the world, the morals in the dark world are so... simple. you can't hurt anyone even if you try and everyone is good and kind deep down, actually (which i know happens in undertale too but there it feels earned in a way it doesn't really in delta rune? that happy ending rly did feel too easy to get, which is part of why i'm so glad the ending promises more fuckery in chapter 2) and the prince a) is goat b) is anagram of asriel's name
i don't actually know where i'm going with this and it doesn't Properly match up but yknow gotta throw things out there before i die that's just how it is

frisk means healthy and kris means crisis

Does happen after his death, yes, but because of the whole thing where he thinks it's an okay idea to just kill humans - so maybe that counts as another plus in the "world in which asgore killed enough humans to break barrier" column?
(sidenote: iirc if you look at his bed/sleeping place i think it says "not king-sized"? and the whole place looks pretty shabby! wonder if that's just a marker of his life having gone downhill or if he just straightup never was king here. he definitely isn't anymore, what with there being a mayor and all, i guess...)

someone i talked to mentioned that there's good points to be made for it being eithe a sequel or a prequel, and i think that meshes nicely with the "real early canon divergence" theory

also, deltarune is apparently an anagram of undertale. i spotted ralsei-asriel, but not that one

you never see kris' eyes until the final scene, and then they're chara-red

like, susies eyes get revealed once she really joins you

but kris? nope, nada, nothing. theyre completely unfazed by everything else, too...
so either hideously depressed or outright possessed

It's weird there's a birdcage for Chara(?) to throw Kris's (?) soul into. Is this... a regular occurrence? Can they even get out of their room at night?

...if the dark world is asriels construction to help kris get out of their shell and make friends, the red eyes worry me all the more. because susie just started being friends with kris, and chara will break that into little pieces

the birdcage, i have no idea. kris/chara(?) locked their heart away

Anyway, I feel like this is just Chara 'going on to the next'. From the Twitter message, this seems a natural followup of choosing to destroy UT's original world.

Let's end this world, and move on to the next. Isn't this the next?
