yo peoples - I am starting to cross-stitch again. if y'all have pattern suggestions send 'em my way! :D
ohhhhhh my mom broughthome my late grandma's yarn box to sort through and why in the hell did these gorgeous irregularly spun cotton yarns go out of fashion holy shit I have reasonable-amount-left-overs in like... ten colors maybe? I'm gonna knit it all into one giant scarf or maybe a poncho or cape or something depending on how my calculations run Or maybe split it up since one pile is like sunset/campfire colors and the other is like washed out sea colors? bdhsbj Also i might actually get over my sensory aversion to mohair yarns because of the one turquoise rainbow yarn i squirrel'd away from that same box. And if the texture still gives me the screeches when it's knit into a scarf I can still donate the finished piece or gift it to someone with less sensory bullshit issues. It's just too cute to throw out ya dig? (Craft Material Hoarder's gotta Hoard)
I started taking a glass class! On Tuesday I will have SO MANY BEADS from last week. It'll be great =3
So um is this the right thread to yell: why is knitting lace so boring? I mean, I know it's because I knit mostly to keep my hands occupied so I can focus on TV and stuff, but with the lace I have to focus om the pattern so much so I can't watch anything at the same time, and also every time I think I know the pattern by heart I end up with some really weird mistake, and it's so slow, and I just really, really hate it otoh it will look super pretty on the scarf I'm making (for my mom!) Spoiler: an accidentally huge picture of my nemesis
my first attempt at beads! a bunch of them broke before I could get to them :( but these ones survived! I really like the red and black one. Spoiler
I finally finished the blanket I was making for my sister! *smiles happily* Spoiler: Shitty ipod pics! The pattern for it is autumn haze. I may have adapted a bit with a extra crochet border and some other additions that I'm not sure how to word.
Ha, I'm actually laughing, cause stuff like stockinette and garter drives me up the wall, I'm too bored, but lace has so many nice variables to knit.... *squishes cheeks happily*
Bought a bunch of fake flowers at 50% off at nanunana (dear germans, nanunana is having fall stuff at 50% off rn because I CANNOT winter stock is already being put out.) that's for a big fall themed flower crown with integrated ram horns. For my halloween costumes/a LARP NPC so that's a thing.
My hands scream in pain any time i try to remember the beginning knitting my mother in law taught me, and I'm not bright enough to understand patterns even for crochet. Doesn't stop me but I don't get much beyond super basic scarf. Sewing hurts a lot so plushies are at a standstill.. BUT. I found my bag patterns and some stiff cloth in storage since I can't get to any place that sells fabric locally. Maybe I can revive my sewing machine and make some nice sturdy bags. Pick up some kid jeans at the second hand store and make some purses and clutches.
I got kinda the same problem. My current knitting project is, additionally, kinda optimistic for my skill level so i have to be able to focus on keeping the pattern straight (which is laughable for other folks here probably it's a super basic pattern creys) so I'm being slow and not getting it done. Also my hands are killing me but mostly because taking apart fake flowers always involves a bit of wrangling and force so it was to be expected, but it's gonna be so worth it!!!
@NuclearVampire obviously we should just switch our knitting projects when we hit the boring parts, and bam! all our problems instantly solved.
Dumb question but have y'all bad hands folks tried those old lady compression gloves or wristbands? LIFE SAVING.
I sometimes knit with wrist braces on but it limits my motion range (duh. Prolly why I should keep them on, my knitting posture is that of an awkward and clumsy mantis lmao) Idk about compression gloves haven't seen something like this around yet. hm. Might actually also help with my enjoyment of video games, too. Otherwise I might do a photo diary of how I am constructing Seda's headpiece (the fall themed one with ram horns i finally bought stuff for) as well as clawed raven/crow gloves for Hrafnás (I got so many characters planned y'all) Remind me to post things here, maybe, or I will indefinitly put off making stuff :/ definite thing once I finalize design stuff is also the goddamn driftwood crown I've been sitting on that idea for like a year by now fghjk
I've had good luck with these elastic support things. They're adjustable, but they left my hands free enough that I was able to draw while wearing one, which has usually been my most painful/difficult-to-accommodate activity. Fair warning, the velcro closure might make handling yarn tricky if you like really cranking them tight like I do, and it's not as supportive as the braces with rigid supports, but I was pleasantly surprised by how well it worked.
My hands are fucked six ways to Tuesday, so when I started getting into knitting my sister found these bright blue spandex glove things in with the knitting supplies at Joann's. They definitely make things more comfortable for longer - I actually have to remember to pace myself more when I'm wearing them bc they keep my arthritis and tendon issues so under control that I miss my usual early warning signals and irritate my nerve damage without meaning to.
SO MY FRIEND STARTED DOING NEEDLE FELTED PLUSH COMMISSIONS AND I WAS LIKE HELLO IM HERE look at this!!!!! it's so cute!!!!!!!! who's a cute demonic triangle, you are
