Mold inspector has arrived at the new apartment and is going through. He found mold that the landlords had hidden (painted over it by the door; just located under the toilet; and the kitchen fan doesn't vent to anywhere).

Also, he found fucking asbestos. Which they had also hidden! Granted that it's in a section under the stairs where we wouldn't have gone, but. Fucking asbestos.

We're not gonna be able to move in at all until they've remediated all of that. Which means we might be staying at an air bnb till it's fixed, because we sure as fuck can't stay here indefinitely.

Its winter and these temperatures are unacceptable

I refuse to tolerate anything colder than like 5 degrees below freezing and i'll be grumpy then too

It feels like -19 celsius with the wind chill tonight and my boots and coat are too restrictive

in conclusion, let me be comfy dammit

this is very early winter, its gonna feel like -35 at some point in dec or jan, at which point i will regret everything ever

True crime related, but if I see one more "X criminal was super smart with IQ of 143!!!" I'm going to give up on those programs.

IQ tests are extremely flawed and scores can depend even on the proctor. It tests for the right answer, but not the intelligence and creativity it takes to get to it. Plus, ~140-160 is considered "of average intelligence", while ~161-180 is considered "above".

Example: I have a tested IQ of 183, but my proctor figured out that they needed to alter parts of the test because I was doing disproportionately bad on timed, number related sections, and color related things due to learning disabilities and color blindness. However, my wife, whom is honestly much smarter than I am when it comes to remembering and concluding correct information, has a tested IQ of 112, which is considered developmentally disabled. (She very much is not.) Her proctor did the opposite of what mine did.

So yeah. This greatly annoys me.

Wait, what? 140-160 is absolutely not considered "average" on any IQ test I'm familiar with. I was under the impression that on many of them it's actually impossible to get above 150.

I recall 100 being standard back when I took my memory and cognition course a couple of years ago (the professor specializes in Gifted Children learning).

It would have helped on my end to also add that scoring and what they mean also varies from guidance chart to guidance chart-- so you're both right, actually, which is another thing that irritates me about IQ tests. (Also I'm a few years behind or so, and it's perfectly possible that things have shifted as far as I can tell, considering my last awareness and last issued test said 200 is impossible to reach.)

Yeah, the way I learned it, the earliest ones were some goofy "mental age" thing where they divided a person's score by their age (hence "Intelligence Quotient") and multiplied by 100, and then most of the later ones set 100 as the median and +/-15 points as one standard deviation.

That's because the earliest versions were basically intended to check if a child was around where you'd expect them to be for their age, as far as education went, or if they needed more help or if they'd benefit from being in more advanced classes. It was never really meant for "this is how smart you are", and the guy who invented it was really annoyed that it got used like that anyways.

Yeah, 100 is pretty much intended as the average of the population - which is why if you tried an IQ test from a hundred years ago, you'd score thirty points higher due to improvement in environmental factors like access to food or healthcare. (this is starting to reverse, which is thought to be because of air pollution and CO2 levels.)
But also why is it always specifically 143? I've seen that exact score so many time from people bragging about their IQ, to the point that 143 was kind of partially a meme on /r/IAmVerySmart at some point, and it's just kinda weird.
(especially since that was my verbal IQ last time I checked a long time ago, though the full score was significantly dragged down from that due to It's Totally Not Learning Disabilities, Look, A Psychiatrist Is Suspecting Aspergers, That Explains It All. It should be a normal distribution so results shouldn't cluster that much outside of the middle, right?)

Why is Housemate's room so gross? It's not a biohazard, but - the lightswitch plate was yellow before I cleaned it (it's back to being the white it's supposed to be now) and there was something staining the area around the doorhandle. And there's a weird stain on two of the walls, one of which is probably some kind of mold.

The whole room also smelled weird and unpleasant before I mopped it, which suggests that he...didn't really clean it much? In the whole two years he was living there?? Or at least he didn't mop the floor, which was what made the room stop smelling weird. (To be fair, he has a weak sense of smell and wouldn't have noticed it unless it'd gotten really pungent.)

Own bad scheduling, irresponsibility and forgetfulness combined = high blood sugar at work brcaude i left my insulin pump at home, because i ran out of insulin overnight and then slept in and figured i'd put in a new insulin reservoir at work. I brought everything to work except my actual insulin pump!

I'm ok now but i had to go home and get my pump and by that time my blood sugar was 29 mmol/L (translation: Bad)
