You store them horizontally to avoid dulling the edge. Storing them blade up is just asking for an accident to happen.

knives should be horizontal, i'm personally offended by the idea of verticality in knife blocks

Knives are going to dull through normal use no matter what anyway. you want to store your knives in a way that doesn't add extra wear, you don't use a knife block. You use a magnetic rack.

My family keep giving me cordial cherries every year, even though every year I remind them I don't like them, I would happily mail you all of mine.

Personally it isn't Christmas if there's not [train noises] -- see, we're not actually sure what the name of this cake is. We're pretty sure it's traditionally called moco cake, but wtf that's a nonsense word? Googling all of the components gives me "mocha cake" or "peanut squares" and even if one of those is right, it's not remotely mocha like. Also everything seems to link the Dakotas region of the country and Norwegian food, and hey! Guess where my father is from, whose family we got this from!

Take angel food cake, slice into individual chunk-shaped sizes (no thin slices), coat every side in frosting, preferably buttery, and then roll that in spanish peanuts.

It is required for it to count as Christmas. You must have the messy cake.

(eta: personal favourite, probably cream cheese cookies, I will eat literally all of them if no one stops me, INHALE THE POWDERED SUGAR BLESSINGS)

pfeffernusse!!! They’re like softer bite sized gingerbread cookies and I could eat them for hours

Also we always put peanut butter between ritz crackers and then coat them in chocolate and it’s just. So good

    Bunny aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Not baked but for the big holiday meals through the year we have these two deserts.

Trifle done in a way that mimics the birds box kit.

Ganty pudding (Ganty being my great grandfather) which is a lime jello + evaporated milk mousse. Normally this sort of mousse is a pink flavour but in this house it gotta be green.

I'm not sure if it qualifies technically as a Christmas thing or just a thing that my parents like to make around that time, but cinnamon morsels are pretty great.

This is neither a cookie nor a baked good, but.... Chocolate Oranges are very much a Christmas treat that I love

Stollen! There’s always a loaf of stollen with Christmas breakfast. One year the power was out on Christmas so my mom had to try baking it in the woodstove, which... well there was a thin edible layer between the char and the raw dough. Also endless fruitcake muffins which my mom makes for gifts and potlucks and such and the rest of us steal before she has a chance to ruin them with alcohol.

@Artemis is this the thing you were talking about? It looks delicious!

If we're counting traybakes then snowballs are something my mother in law makes very well - cocoa, desiccated coconut, condensed milk, butter and crushed digestive biscuits mixed and rolled into balls, coated in more coconut.

Mmmm, similar! We always used angel food cake very specifically, but I imagine it works with other plain cake!
And it cannot be any peanuts. It must be spanish peanuts. Other peanuts are delicious but are not for The Cake.

P a n e t t o n e. So much panettone. Plain panettone. French toast panettone. Bread pudding panettone. Give All the panettone to Me

Fruitcake was a big favorite for a long time, but it's too sweet for me now.

As far as the making part of baking, I absolutely Love making sugar cookies and decorating them with royal icing ^u^
