yeah, i reckon if it's a vent thread it should go in the holler closet with the other vent threads. treat bijou blogette threads as you'd treat a tumblr blog or twitter, in terms of etiquette.

Fun, I don't do tumblr or twitter. Well, I did use tumblr as a place to dump photos, but I don't interact there.

i'm probably not the person to explain General Blog Etiquette bc i'm kind of terrible at it, but in a nutshell i'd say: OP is the host, everyone else posting in that thread is a guest, there to interact with OP's content. it's a conversation.

Im not so sure about tumblr or twitter equivalent? The upside of these threads for me is that I can still tell someone to take it to tcgb if they wanna argue at me in there. (I hope)

Edit: ninjaed, ok were on the same page.

Yeah, a lot of people post rules in the first post of their thread.

Since these threads are largely owned by the OPs (as opposed to general discussion threads), as long as the rules are reasonable, people generally try to abide by them.

Specifically, @ Cody, I think asking people to take fights to tchgb is perfectly reasonable!

Athol Magarac I prefer reading posts without a lot of topics.

Basically I was looking for a mark that indicated "you should read the rules of the thread because it has an owner" vs "the OP doesn't own it and it doesn't have special rules."

my general rule of thumb is if the thread HAS rules in the first post, I follow them, because that's why people put them there

I think saying "please read the thread rules" in tags made by you will suffice

I would have assumed that threads in Bijou Blogette are explicitly owned by their creators and hence are subject to the rules of the thread creator unless otherwise specified by the thread creator? Unless I have a drastic misunderstanding of how blogs work.
I mean, we have plenty of spaces for community-owned threads.

Should that be made explicit in YBB? Like, a pinned "this is what this forum is for" type thread that states explicitly that each thread is owned by the thread creator and subject to any posting rules that the thread creator decides to declare? That way we don't need a specific "this thread is owned" tag. I feel like forums with significantly different expected thread mechanics than the rest of the forum really ought to have a pinned "READ FIRST" thread describing what those expected mechanics are, even if they are "obvious" based on the forum's title, subtitle, and purpose.

I guess some people might want a thread with multiple owners, the way that some blogs have multiple authors. I would guess that this would be the rarer case, and thus would possibly benefit from a "cohost wanted" tag, but I don't know if that sort of thing needs to be elevated to the same level as the Vent label; we could just ask people creating such threads to put it in the tags or in the first post or something? But again, expected behavior, and therefore should be made explicitly expected behavior rather than implicitly expected behavior.

So I guess I would put in something like:

    • Personal threads, owned by thread creator unless the thread creator explicitly declares otherwise. If the thread creator wants multiple accounts to "own" the thread, that should be explicitly stated by the thread creator somewhere visible.
    • Thread creators get to declare any rules they like for their threads, although, just as with everywhere else on the forum, these rules will only be enforced by reporting violations to the mods, who get to determine whether the rule being violated is something reasonable given Kintsugi's guidelines and conventions.
    • All threads in the main YBB are visible to everyone, logged in or not, while threads in CL7 are visible to everyone who is logged in (usual block/ignore restrictions apply). More sensitive material should go elsewhere.

I've come to the realization that it might be easiest for people wanting to make a group thread to first make a group account, i.e. a single account to which everyone in the group knows the password, to save the mods the hassle of trying to figure out who is on the list of thread owners. On the other hand, this would prevent the group from removing members unless one of them changes the password and tells only the person they want to keep in the group, which upon further thought could lead to rival factions racing to change the password to the shared account in order to cut off the other factions, which is hilarious in the Sonic-For-Real-Justice style. And now that I've had the idea and released it into the wild I've increased its chance of happening. You're all welcome.

I'd rather deal with thread ownership lists in the event of a co-owned blog than the hell of deciphering a potential fight over a group account if someone decides not to play nice (though obviously none of us can really prevent anyone from trying that if they want to), but the rest of this sounds like a good idea. There'll probably be an explanation thread made sooner or later.

If no one else beats me to the punch, I'll write one up either this or next week and chuck it into mod queue for people to look over. I think we can afford a brief wait to hash out specifics while this topic proposing the idea is still fresh.

my instinct is to wait a little while before nailing down a guide, to see how people use their threads and which questions come up. a week or so like @Xavius says sounds about right to me.

you can just make a new thread and ask to have specific posts moved there, or you can pick one of your threads to move, up to you. when you're ready, make a report with links to what you want us to move, and we'll get it done. :)

well i'm super confused. did you use the report button on the post you want moved, and/or give links to the posts you want moved? you're not gonna get yelled at for reporting your own post with the text "please move this post to [destination]".

edit: ah, yeah, if it was before i made the subforum, some mods might not have known it was a thing yet. it'll work if you do it now.

Assuming I make a blogette with a title post and move some old posts there, would the title post no longer be the first one for timestamp reasons?

Yes, but we can do stuff about that. Ping a mod when you’re done making a thread and we can copy an old post into the thread to edit into a new OP.
