Technically I have two bloggish threads already, but why not a third? I guess this might be a place to post meta or RL stuff, or maybe crosspost from my dreamwidth? Like links and things. Which is more or less what the tumblr was, though now this is more or less for a smaller audience? I don't know. Current updates: I made prompts post stickies for my dreamwidth main blog and the writing blog. I also did a major update for the past couple of months including some bullshit problems I'm having with AHCCCS (Medicaid in AZ) I haven't gotten any writing done, though I did re-write my introduction post on the dreamwidth. (I also need to do some design fixes since I don't want to go with the "Near Life Experiences" subtitle anymore, which means changing the subject/reply stuff.) In other news, I kind of want to strangle the writer of "I Hope You Have Infinite Text Messaging." I love the story, it's a great story, but she really needs to be consistent with nicknames and explain others because half the time I have no clue who the hell is supposed to be talking. Just. She gave Peter a random seeming acronym that isn't explained. The only reason we know Tony's talking to Peter is because she says so in the notes and from context. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa Maybe I will complain about writers here. :P
Sleeping schedule: still borked, but I managed to take out the garbage, so go me! I am reading: Manly Guys Doing Manly Things (a web comic), I Hope You Have Unlimited Text Messaging (when it finally loads), The Price of Forgiveness and This, You Protect. I am attempting to feed my dragons. (I say attempting because I have to re log in and I am not in an area with the good connection.) I have an Agatha, who I decided would be a Spiral. I ended up with an Equius so I went looking for a Nepeta in contrasting colors.
Now I'm working my way through the rest of the "protection detail" series! It's one of my favorite comfort reads. In other news, a Miracle Child update! Eeeeeee. Also, random kudos on a much earlier work! A horrifying plot bunny in honor of some of the "medieval stuck: Striders captured by the kinky Prospit heirs" fics I've seen: What if Prospits practice both group marriage (in this form, siblings form a household and then go looking for spouses, and the Prospit heirs are two pairs of twins.) And they also practice marriage by kidnap and decide they want the entire set of Derse Heirs?
A friend should be coming over and we should be going out to eat. I have a 30$ off coupon for Benihana's as a birthday special. I am hoping she turns up soon. I got up at four this morning! I do not do well when I get up this early but I needed to go to an appointment with my benefits specialist. Naturally, I ended up taking a nap.
TFW a pill gets wedged somewhere in your throat and there is no amount of swallowing that's going to make it go where it's supposed to. Gnah.
Today I have another early appointment, and I have to do stuff for AHCCCS like provide them with money information. bluh.
I'm having a "you all think I'm lying/faking" feel that is mostly directed at the mental health people at my clinic. I am mostly blaming the effort related to the upcoming SSI hearing. Thing I need to remember: back in 2012 I was initially sent to Community Bridges. (I keep forgetting the name of the place. If I put it enough places, maybe I'll remember.)
If I say a degree is worthless, then it's worthless. It is not low self esteem, and you are not reaching down into my pit of despair to remind me of it. Did you spend six months to a year trying to get a web graphic design job only to be told you needed advanced experience in various programming languages? No? Did you have your parents telling you you should just concentrate on just getting any kind of job, like washing dishes instead of looking for a specific job, even though you were already doing that and no one was hiring you there either? No? Then shut the fuck up.
This was supposed to be the light blogging thread. However I'm cranky and experiencing Paranoia and Fleas, when I should be relieved I made it home without outbursts. (Though maybe an outburst would have helped?)
Anyway, Benihana's was pretty fun, though more for the "cooked right in front of you!" entertainment than necessarily for the food itself. (Which was okay, but not stellar.) Friend had Tofu, and I had seafood. (I told her that when I was a kid, I used to call Tofu "Toad Food" because that's actually what the word sounded like to me. She said that sounded like a great name for a vegetarian restaurant. Toads are insectivores though, so I have my doubts.)
So I have intermittent "retail" dreams where I'm working at some kind of store. This one I was working at the Dillard's I used to work at from 96 to 04, which was slowly falling apart to the point where the top floor was no longer in use because of how the roof leaked when it rained. (We spent a lot of time vacuuming out cobbled together "pools" and being told mold doesn't grow on cement.) Anyway, in this dream was kind of tangled up, I was working on cleaning up during a sale, which I used to do when I worked at Dillard's, talking to a voc rehab counselor about the shoes I was wearing, and then going into the manager's office to get the schedule for next week, where the manager reveals a plan for everyone to call in sick for the next month to force the higher ups to fix the roof. Then there was something involving eating in the mall court and going home. Next dream was a weird horrifying fantasy involving kids confined at this camp-school under tortuous conditions and it turns out they all have seasonal-based magic, and the one developing powers the most strongly was this Winter kid. So I'm watching it in third person with a narrator showing me the kid slowing changing. The school also seemed to involve dance for some reason, so it felt a little Princess Tutu is, though still kind of horrific. Anyway, the Winter kid transforms and decides to rescue the entire student body, leaving the teachers/scientists to explain what happened to the "king." Then there was some kind of thing where the Winter Kid has a meeting with the king to determine if the king knew how badly the kids had been treated, and it turns out he did, most likely. And then I woke up before anything else happened because of course it did.
Oh! I also had a weird ass Homestuck dream where Dirk was trying to absorb all of his splinters but he couldn't when getting to Bro. They ended up turning into a merman after a weird moment where they were both attached to eachother like siamese twins. There's an argument over whether Bro might end up being the dominant personality since he's older, and Bro is like, "too late to argue now." Then they completed the transformation and dove into the sea.
The muffled shrieks of laughter you might be hearing are because of Patricia Brigg's Alpha and Omega werewolf series. Though her omegas are completely outside pack hierarchy and are essentially Alphas who aren't aggressive. But still. Ahahahahahahahahahahahahah
I mean, I read Cry Wolf and it wasn't bad, but still. Ahahahahah. I'm also re-reading Lake Silence by Anne Bishop.
Also, she does the incorrect strict hierarchical wolves thing. (Patricia Briggs) Which was based off of captive wolves from different packs being thrown together so they all ended up acting like assholes to each other, instead of "wolf packs are families." This is mostly why I don't read Patricia Briggs' werewolf novels.
it's so hard to find any werewolf stories that don't do that. whyyyy. i love the concept of 'people who are also wolves' but it's all sexual dominance and biology-is-destiny stuff for some reason.
She also does "there aren't very many female werewolves, and they can't have babies because shapeshifting" but as far as I can tell, there are no LGBT werewolves. Briggs mostly writes urban fantasy/romance of the "strong independent female character something something mysteries and then Magical Hunks." TBF the main series features IIRC a strong independent female werecoyote.
I may or may not have a cold. I am ambivalent about which it might be because my allergy symptoms are pretty much the same as cold symptoms and I literally tell them apart by which kind of medicine works on them. Chances are good that since Benihana has multiple parties sitting at one table, I may have caught the beginning of a cold from someone sitting next to me. If this is a cold. Sadly, I don't currently have any cold meds and I am sad.
