ah, i finally found a tutorial with pictures, and not so dang much "it's really easy, you just suck" going on https://www.carlsguides.com/stardewvalley/fishing/how-to-fish.php
yay @seebs gave me the mac version so i can use mods! and also read the text! which is not so dang tiny now!
That damn fishing game has a super steep learning curve not helped by the fact that it's harder to start out with than it is at higher levels.
Fishing game gets a lot easier after you power through the first couple levels and get a better rod. I’d say it’s worth it for the community center and to get gifts for certain people and events, but it’s still a pain in the ass.
Fishing's always been a great moneymaker for me, specially once I level it a couple of times so the 'catch bar is less tiny, especially if you take the upgrades that increase how much they sell for. Also you can fish up treasure that can be gamebreaking early if you get lucky and pick up gems or strong weapons or artifacts.
Sebby likes spaghetti ok, pumpkin soup if you can find it, and those frozen tear things you get deep in the mine. Those are the most early game things I can remember.
Frozen tears are by far the most easily obtained gift for Sebastian in my experience - youve gotta shell out a LOT of dosh for a kitchen, and the tears aren't *too* deep in the mines, just the next zone after the initial earthy levels.
kitchen upgrade is 10k, i think? not so much really, but i'm upgrading my tools and getting a chicken coop first. keeping track of how many days left in the season and when i planted each wave of veg is so fiddly, i want to move over to mainly animal farming asap.
oh! i never thought of giving him quartz, i have some of that already. here sebby sebby, where are you hiding...
i may or may not keep a reference sheet regarding if i can harvest that crop again this season or if i should plant something else on that patch. there might also be a spreadsheet.
If the witch pays a visit to your chicken coop and turns one of your chickens to a Void chicken, the Void Eggs they lay are also one of Sebastian's faves. That event is largely random though you could be lucky and get it early game.
Pizza works alright, but spag is cheaper. But yeh I always save the frozen tears for my derpy goth boyfriend
I think I befriended him entirely with void eggs my first playthrough, since I got a lucky witch visit early on. For general befriending, most people like at least one of eggs, milk, cheese, or jam/pickles, so it's worth keeping a couple of those in your inventory whenever you go out for random encounter friendship purposes.
Fruit trees are also good, they don't need watering or anything but they take A While to grow some plants can grow in multiple seasons in a row which is also helpful, like coffee and wheat
