yeah ultimately while a lot of the words were good, he should have signed it given this was an arg and we have no idea how many people were involved in its creation. maximum transparency is required here, imo. while we can assume it was hussie, he should have actually put his name to it. Especially as this isn't the first incident of incredibly tone deaf, racist, and. Yeah. Stuff.
i feel like i should clarify that my standard 4 apology are higher here from a pr and business perspective. if it had been a whatpumpkin employee and not hussie himself i would still be of the opinion that they should have their employment with the company terminated, which obvs is not a thing that can happen here when its the person in charge o f the whole deal. there are formulas 2 follow when u are the head of a company, and u can note that apologies from people who fuck up while actively doing things for their business are usually done on a 3fold thing - personal + signed, official statement on social media, termination of employment if employee. while i am mostly satisfied with the wording of the apology imo it has so far been handled unprofessionally, which is somewhat alarming considering how extensive the homestuck media presence is - u got paradox space, whatpumpkin, the deal with viz, hiveswap as a thing, friendsim as a thing, the comic itself and the fanforge stuff that i can count off. if hussie puts the apology on his personal twitter + the actual whatpumpkin twitter itself, that will satisfy what i expect of the head of a company that has handled a great deal of money + different media iterations of its ip.
basically, transparency in wtf is going on. i know thats never been the rule of law in homestuck shit but when it comes to fuckups of this scale u gotta set aside the personal Mystique and do the right thing on a business level, cause like. a lot pf people dont even know the apology exists bc its on the website and not the twitter. and if u havent been linked it andu saw the initial horrifying shit, for many people theres a good chance of not going back 2 check on the site so to actually be effective u gotta put the message out on multiple platforms, maybe make it the pinned tweet for like at least a week.
Thank you, that makes your complaint a lot clearer to me. I was kind of thrown by the talk of a signature because signatures arne´t the rule for internet communication so this to me felt like a rule no one had told me about coming out of nowhere, which alarmed me.
sorry about that, i will try to articulate better - basically on an individual level, i am mostly satisfied with his apology, but on a business level it is not anywhere near sufficient 2 address the magnitude of what went down. hussie is not an auteur anymore, he works with a lot of other people, and he put all of their careers in jeopardy with this via association and by not signing it, so max transparency is required 2 address how this happened (in apology, acceptable), why this happened (mostly addressed in apology, but not clear if any of the whatpumpkin staff knew the arg would happen at all), and what steps are going to be taken 2 prevent it from happening again.
Appreciated but you misunderstood hat confused me. If you had used "posted under his name" instead of signed I would have understood you. (You may have said something to that effect and i did not get it, in which case i apologize. )Basically your choice of words threw me bc it refers to a type of identifier hardly ever used on the internet, so I got confused as to why it as opposed to a more common one like using an account of his should be needed all of a sudden.
There's another apology from someone who works with WP and is friends with Hussie, stating that yes, they knew this thing existed and had seen it years ago and it was really rough drafts for plot, and they wish they'd been more active in going "hey, this is not good, you need to remove X, Y, and Z if you're ever going to show it to people because otherwise it's going to be extremely offensive and unfunny".
ye. from the sounds of this it was a cascading failure across the chain due to personal relationships bypassing the typical oversight then. this is honestly a really strong sign that they should hire people specifically to edit/check shit that are not his friends if they have not already. ideally they will gather all of these statements on the twitter in the next 24 hours or so, cause speed for this is p crucial if u want to salvage the reputation of ur brand and rebuild trust
Rereading Act 1 for an in-depth analysis, and was John actually trying to hit his dad with the hammer or just to splat the cake with it?
I think he was just trying to splat the cake with it. Unlike Rose and Dave, John and his dad seem to have a fairly friendly, healthy relationship - it'd seem odd for John to be trying to actually harm his dad. (Unlike Rose, who actually does stab at her mom with her knitting needles, and Dave who is required to try and hit Bro.) I feel like for John, he considers it to be a type of roughhousing. Sure, one of them might get hurt, but you're not supposed to actually try and do real harm.
Considering his dad’s enormous strength and mangrit, could he have done any harm even if he’d wanted to?
Well, you don't use strength and mangrit to deal with being hit; you use constitution, defense, and durability.
