I think that, since they were physically stuck together through... methods, they'd just poof into a minicluster. The rod seems to just get rid of their physical forms.

oh also before I go to bed: @Vast Derp you're cool with gemsona fusions right? I was thinking Maxixe + Boulder Opal -> Labradorite
with a naval mine on a chain for a weapon, as a combo of grappling hook and land mine?

I have so many feelings about the Too Far and I must flail
aaaaaaaaugh i love everything about this episode so much. peridot bby

I was actually thinking of autistic!Peridot last episode because of how she expects things to fit her system and her confusion and frustration when it doesn't. This episode gave more of that, using her recorder because sometimes words are hard, and her struggle to understand the complex social rules of joking mockery

Speaking of, I love how this episode basically had the lesson of "joking mockery is ok but if you hurt someone's feelings with it, you need to apologize even if you don't understand why they're so upset" without being anvilicious. Also, no one, not even Peridot, blamed Amethyst for being hurt and upset.

Seconding the love for how this show gets lessons across without anything being a allegory. I think it'll help the show hold up better with time unlike say, older cartoon episodes about the internet. Since nothing is directly about Issue X, the lessons will still be relevant in some way 10-20 years from now when things have changed. The gem shard fusions and Garnet's reaction reminded some people of rape but to me it seemed more like seeing a really offensive caricature of yourself and both can work. Garnet's kind of an allegory for homosexuality and Peridot's "Can you unfuse?" is sort of "can you be less gay?" but not really because fusion doesn't have an exact real world equivalent.

Also, that little fistbump motion Peridot did make me think of certain other hand motions like making a hole with one hand and moving a finger in and out with the other or scissoring motions. Given the context, I think that little fistbump might have been considered about as rude as those and when Steven copied it, I just went "Steven, you're not old enough to be making that gesture"
there have a bunch of stream of consciousness thoughts fresh off the episode. Hopefully at least one of them made sense.

the thing with this episode, really, for me, was i only really understood what the hell peridot was doing as a result of your commentary. like, when i was actually watching the episode, it befuddled sme. (which probably makes it good that i watched it twice, thanks to the leak.)
just yeah... what she was trying to do with saying those things to and about the Gems, why she did it... my brain was just Not Getting It. like, i get it now, sorta, but for me, peridot's behaviour was a big question mark all the way through the episode. both times.
i dunno why this episode was so inexplicable to me when it wasn't to you guys, but yeah... that was the main thing i noticed, that i didn't get peridot until she was explained to me.
i was just literally like, "rude, peridot. rude. why the hell are you being so rude?" all through the entire episode.
the apology felt like it came out of right the fuck nowhere, after all that.
but now, i think i might get it.

Peridot doesn't get what's funny and what isn't. She says something people laugh, therefore it's funny!

Well, Amethyst laughed at her rude impressions so she kept spamming them, thinking they were a comedy goldmine. She didn't understand the nuances of humor like that. When you take "rude" humor and it goes too far, when things go from "busting chops" to "actually insulting" (or that some people don't like that kind of humor in the first place)

Basically she didn't think that a joke is ever not funny. When Amethysts feelings were hurt she didn't get why until Steven told her that she hurt her feelings, and then she felt bad and apologized. Which was uncomfortable and awkward, but she felt better after.

    @liminal
    yeah, that makes sense.
i figure that i haven't really experienced people spamming jokes like that or done it myself, so, well, i wasn't aware it could be a thing. not with rude jokes like that, anyway. i mean, there are times when me and my brother repeat (sorta) funny things like "your face is ___" and whatnot but... we definitely don't ever go as far as peridot does. like, the only issue i really have with my brother most of the time, when he's on a joking streak, is that he won't shut up. the actual words he's saying are a lot less bothersome than how he just won't stop bugging me.

I related a lot to Peridot in this episode. Granted I generally don't hurt people's feelings in that way because I usually don't find busting people's chops funny anyways (not that I find it offensive or anything, it's just not my sense of humor) but often people think I'm hilarious and I don't really get what's so funny about what I say 1/2 the time (the other 1/2 I actually am making a joke).

I just say things and people laugh? It's kind of weird.
