Spoiler As someone who has an... unhappy family... I wanna say I really appreciate what Steven Universe done over the last few episodes with the strong undertones of dealing with abusive family and everyone being able to reconcile in the end. The Diamonds care about and support each other, but their actions result in them all being hurt. White Diamond was too forceful and overbearing, and refused to listen to them, leaving Yellow angry and Blue depressed, and while Pink did her best to make everyone happy and keep them together, in the end she wound up running away- and that hurt the others, too. Not to mention White belittling, insulting, and even (literally) brainwashing the others when they don't do as she says, and Blue and Yellow following her example when dealing with Pink when she acted out. Steven makes them all listen to each other and truly consider everyone's feelings, which is what they needed to do from the beginning, and as a result they can all be happier. Together.

ahhhh!!!! that makes me so happy, James Baxter visited my college about 2 years back and when we were asking him questions, one person asked if he'd seen Steven Universe, and he said he'd loved it and contacted them about wanting to animate with them for an episode if he could!!! I'm so glad they had the budget and plans to do some work with him :D

Ok theory: there were never any other rose quartzes. When the other diamonds started demanding that that entire "flawed" strain must be bubbled Pink just got (or made) a bunch of actual rose quartz and bubbled that
I'm not crying, you're crying :0 Spoiler: AAAAAAAAAAAA Is that the end, then??? I thought we were slated for at least another season... Sucks if so but that was a helluva note to end on!!! In reverse order: The Earth and Heaven beetles were PEBBLES!! Really fancy Pebbles!! Maybe Rose made them before she realised she had to put her liquid Diamond stuff somewhere? Embarrassed Jasper is the best thing ever and I will fight you all. Also WHITE. Her embarrassment should be fucking bottled and sold as fine liquor. It makes sense that she thinks of the other Diamonds as part of her? White does contain all colours, possibly literally in her case. I wonder if she made them, as well - her speech there certainly implies it. Which means that 'surroundings yourself with inferior beings' speech was DEFINITELY projecting there - how frustrating it must have been for her, unable to throw another perfect white diamond, unable to find another planet with the perfect amount of natural pressured carbon with no impurities to hatch one. I wonder who was hatched first, Blue or Yellow? I wonder if there were abortions before them, shattered before she settled for less than perfect? Christ, that went dark. Speaking of dark... I honestly thought I was going to throw up when she pulled Steven's gem out D: I had to pause and go splash water on my face before I could come back, but... Steven is always Steven, which is A Good. I wonder if his Gem-self was so flat because he was angry/in shock or if he really needs Human Steven to feel anything? It was horrible seeing him crawl and cry, though. "I AM a kid, what's your excuse?" I actually went 'oooooooh' aloud and pointed at the screen. And then he made her feel again! Good Steven, best Heir of Heart/Blood. But going back to the start! I'm so glad Blue was the first one to see sense. My money was actually on Yellow, but I hadn't bargained on how strong her 'STICK TO THE DAMN RULES THERE NEEDS TO BE RULES DAMMIT' instinct was. She even said it herself after I did - Diamonds might be strong, but they're also brittle as heck. They don't break easy without shattering. SMOKEY! RAINBOW 2.0!! SUNSTONE! (with her 90's leaning on the fourth wall stay cool stay in school aesthetic that made me laugh really hard :p) OBSIDIAN WITH HER LAVA SWORD (I guess y'all who were calling the Temple fusion Rainbow Obsidian have some cash to collect now, huh?) Peridot and Lapis' new duds!! I gotta say I really Love Lapis' harem pants, I feel like they suit her fighty personality better than a skirt. And Peridot has kamina shades, bc of course she does. :D I'm glad it wasnt too weird for Lars and Sadie to meet up again. It'll be funny to see him try and slack off now with the Off-Colours cheering him on XD Bluh, this was a lot of typing on a phone D: I'm sure there's other stuff, but yeah. Good haul.
Agreed on all counts, but I have some excellent news for you: it’s NOT the finale! It was written so that it would WORK as one—like with Mirror Gem/Ocean Gem, they weren’t sure if they were getting renewed or not. Iirc the show’s been publicly announced as renewed through S6 at least. and given that there were new boarders hired recently, we’re almost certainly getting even more than that. :D
Spoiler: spoilers plus thoughts so. there is a cute and funny comic about the scene from three gems and a baby, if pearl did pull the gem, but i really also love the fact that pearl, full of grief over rose, still respected that choice in the end. "I can't. I can't! She wanted this so much. I just... don't... understand... why!" and White very much so does not respect that choice. and just. man. so many things!!! i mean the obvious call backs and such but also blue! blue realizing they fucked up bad and that Steven is best off on earth, that Pink ran away for a reason and that the way they act isn't normal or good. 'deja blue' is great too. and just. I love the insistence on 'This isn't normal." also I love pearl's new outfit so much. she looked amazing in that jacket in Last One Out of Beach City and now she has her own puffy sleaved jacket. and JASPER. i wonder if the movie's villain is going to be a response about homeworld changing? Or just a rouge gem.
Someone just pointed out on tumblr that the 'CYM' in 'change your mind' can also stand for 'cyan, yellow, magenta' which while not only being the precise colours of Blue, Yellow and Pink Diamond, they're also the major colours that White light is comprised of :o
Spoiler I know it's probably just a "huge hit" thing, but I like that Obsidian got poofed by blunt force when knapping is how you shape Obsidian into tools and stuff. I dunno. Also, just, so good, that whole episode. Worth staying up late for the whole household to be together to watch it, even if I'm sick and should've gone to bed early last night.
And now I need to remember to keep off of comments on Youtube clips of the James Baxter shots because I cannot help being an annoying pedant when it comes to animation and animator facts :P
