Speaking of sewing! My absorbed sister got a new sewing machine, so guess who gets her old one!! (hint: its me) Im so excited for the things I can make, especially for christmas gifts!
@Kijikun I'm not sure I can tell what's going on with the skirt but I have poor spatial imagination, could you try to elaborate on what you think went wrong? (i'm not sure you can salvage it as a circle skirt but if you can give me pointers how much fabric you have I could maybe draw up a list of other things you could try to make from the already-cut-pieces?)
The bottom of the circle is differently lengths as it goes around, really short i n some places, just right in others. If nothing can be done it's fine, it was just a old bed sheet I was practicing on.
i mean mine has a wheel you could painstakingly roll around for single stitches (adjustment of needle position is it's actual purpose) But I would... not do that for whole projects. Just get used to the pedal thing. If I'm not mistaken, then they are generally always pressure sensitive so it won't go too fast for you unless you floor it. Be gentle and careful and get to know your machine :D (And happy bday to you :P)
I had a tiny one once that could be made go with a push button. I admit I too am intimidated by the petal. (I learned to sew with one where you made it go by moving the petal-thingy back and forth with your foot.)
hmm hem it so it's all the same length, try to find a cute contasting fabric to make an underskirt/lower tier with? underskirt has on the pro-side: more practice at making circle skirts, on the con side: more fabric so probably more expensive, tiered skirt is I thiiiiink more difficult to do. but I have never made a tiered skirt so I wouldn't know for sure?
I'll give it a try! I've got some fabric that might work for it. I've got my sewing machine at my place now so I can actually practice. This one was pretty much a see if I know what I'm doing before I go buy fabric and mess that up. ^_^
Unfortunately my roomies' craft iron doesn't get hot enough to melt perler beads, so I've got to try using a real iron. That's more alarming to me and I'm not exactly sure where it is, so it'll be a bit before I can show off any melted and completed perler projects. Despite the need to wait, I decided to do two more designs from my symbol series: Storm and Tide. I'm quite content with the Tide design on the right. The the darker, green-tinted blue for the strokes of the symbol, the lightest blue for hints of foam along the crest and trough, and mid teal to give the darker lines boundaries. The curve of the crest is a little jointed so to also hint at curled fingers... as the associations of tide are that alternating pattern of giving and pushing people up, then resenting their success and pulling them down, then regretting it and making amends. Up and down and up and down. The Storm symbol, though, I'm not as happy with. The pencil drawing of it is the strongest of the bunch by far, but I'm not sure I'm feeling this. I want the lightning bolt to have a strong contrast with the rest, so pale yellow against one of the darker purples; contrast in hue and value. The swirling storm cloud seems a little too much a neat oval. Like, for comparison, here's the symbols I've done into perler beads so far (the perler versions are reversed, until they're melted): Spoiler: bunch of little pictures I ended up changing Bone in a big way, and I may need to rethink it's design a little more. It used to be like this: which... doesn't really resemble anything? if I extended the lines til they made a V, it looked a little like ram's skull with the horns backwards. I decided to make it more like a mammoth's skull, but now I'm not sure where the separate marks are. Like this? Hmmm. Looking back at that drawing of the symbol, maybe I need to make the lightning bolt more tilted all the way, so the cloud can reach down beside it a little. I'll melt this version and keep thinking about it, anyway.
Perler beads are fun and I'm glad to have tried playing with them. I'm trying to do one a day, and here's the last two: The symbol for Hive, being a honey bee! Sorta. I don't have any brown right now, and I didn't want to use black for making the midsection darker, so I was lazy and made it more of a yellow bumblebee. I'm a cheater. :P Did the symbol itself in two shades of orange so they would stand out a bit from the yellows and black, but not too much. Spoiler: Based on: Today I did a bigger pic based on this adorable pixel kitty: Just look at that giggling rainbow cat.
3x combob of Perler bead art! Tumblr had enough intriguing fanart of Undertale that I hunted for no-comment let's plays, and watched two paths through the game. Decided I liked the look of it enough to want to play through it myself. And it's a cute, pixel art aesthetic, pretty darn ideal for perler art! So I decided to do art of your first friend in Undertale... Flowey the Flower. :) I made some adjustments; obvious ones, in that I did color, and subtler ones to help the colors have gradations. The petals were easy enough to do with 2 shades of brown, 2 shades of orange, and the bright yellow. There's not nearly as much variety with the greens, so I finally cheated and used dark blue to help give Flowey's stem a sense of light and shadow. I'm going to give myself a little bit of time to think if there's any minute changes I want to make here or there, but I'm mostly happy with how he came out. *Edit. The main things I'm considering are slight adjustments to the petals to better match the original sprite, and whether I want to flatten the colors of the stem so the petals stand out more.
Okay so, I had a craft idea for a family christmas gift, and I need some help with whether or not its aas good as an idea as I thought, since I am not in the fandom completley. Kaylotta stop reading here, as this might end up being given to you Spoiler so Ive seen these online (please tell me if the photo doesnt work) and i thought that they looked fun to do, but noone I give gifts to is really passionate about their province, so what else could i put around the heart well turns out I had been looking at some undertale stuff before hand, and the idea popped into my mind of doing the outline of the maincharacter, with the heart in the middle, done in red string. Cause like the heart represents their soul right and its all symbolic and shit. (this is where its obvious I am not as in this fandom as others) So basically, is htis as symbolic/cute/etc as I thought it was? and also, who do I give it to? I was thinking a joint gift to sis and bro and Kay, but Kay has her own house, so should it just be for sis and bro? Kay has a lot more nerdy decor iun her house, so it might fit better there.. idfk this has gotten to rambling by now whoops. Hmm. should I put this in the undertale thread instead?
@Imoyram don't fret I can help you with this Spoiler I think since the strings are tied to the nails that form the heart and there is no actual outlining thread you'd probably fare best by painting the nails themselves, rather than going for different colored string. So silver nails for character outline, red/purple/azure/green/yellow/blue/orange (that's all soul colors canonically shown in undertale!) painted nails for the heart and white string. If you have the time I think it'd be neat to give each of them a version with their favorite boss fight's soul color. If you don't mind spoilers you can look all bossfights up on youtube (Or pm me and I'll tell ya if you wanna avoid spoipers), just note which color the heart has and use that color to paint the nails used to outline the heart :P But it's definitly cute and symbolic and I might just actually make this for myself now omg, it's hella.
more perler art, more undertale art It's you! We have one of those massive 22,000 bead containers, and I just wasn't patient enough to dig through for the dark browns for the hair at this time of night. Spoiler: and showing off all of them so far
