art therapy thing today was fun and i was fucking around with chalk pastells to get a feel for potential color schemes for quartz and i thiiiiiiink i played myself I meant to give her like unnaturally blue eyes but god i tried tyrian/fuchsia/hot pink ish color and ohhhhhhh it's very pretty and striking

• The sound design is so fucking amazing and interesting and bombastic it's a damn shame fort tarvis and most of the costume design is generic as fuck sci-fi faire, though the dude with the face tattoos stands out as looking cool and I suppose given you don't get to see the actual opening I'm not surprised I'm lost as shit as to what the fuck the plot even is.
• who on god's green earth greenlit the facial animations going live like that, turn on your location i just want to talk
• seriously a lot of the humans' animations are.... fucking goofy and weird and janky as hell? I'm scared of this being the production standard now, bc it's BAD
• Bioware you can do so much better than this
• Character Creator/Javellin Customizing engine remains one of the sexiest things modern gaming technology has brought us, hooooooo
• can't say MUCH of the gameplay i didn't even get through a whole mission before i got booted off the server and the whole game froze to death but that may be tech limitations on my end
• i'm not sure anyone but the fem!Freelancer did anything but phone the voicelines in but that might be the dead-eyed blank stares and overacted nonsense gestures
• ngl i appreciate the dramatic drag queen level gesturing in the emotes tho bc yes. Yes i need that in my life
• nnnnnot sure about locking people into starting on the ranger? I'm bad at middling allrounder builds, I only tend to do well in shoot and loots with sniper mage-y builds. Just let me play the storm from the get go
• The lag was murder on me christ i had no idea what was going on 90% of the time? When i did shoot and hit things tho, the machinepistol on ranger felt decently satisfying
• NoRespawn Glitch ain't patched I don't care what you say EA :^)
• I feel so bad for Bioware about this bc it rly feels like EA is fuckign them over especially given the live status checker proudly proclaims all servers ould be online while across platforms people have server collapse issues and get booted left right and center

• I'm SO PLEASED they're not writing Dick as a Tim Clone, he's angry and he has ex drama and he's an impulsive idiot boy who hides behind snark and he's smart as hell and I love him so much, even though they are edging PRETTY far into 'Jason's Murder Phase' with his characterization which is quite interesting considering jason is in this later on
• Kory's actress is cute but a) don't do the language quirk thing for Starfire unless your actress can pull off lines in multiple languages without weird cringy grammar mistakes and b) nnnnnot??? Sure?? About gleefully violent black woman? It gets a bit mmmmmm at times bc Netflix and Gratuitous Punchfests, but she does usually only go for the murder thing in self defense or defense of others, so still better than Dick "Murders A Bucnh Of People In Front Of Old Friends So Much They Recommend Therapy In All Earnestness" Grayson
• Ngl as cheesy and kind of cringy as it is i absolutely adore the decision of giving Kory a constant donna summer disco soundtrack. It's goofy but has a great way to keep her vibe light hearted and cheesy and just ditzy enough it gives her approachability without making her stuck as either the airhead starfire sometimes ends up in the old TT cartoon, or the blankfaced mannequin she was often in Red Hood and the Outlaws
• Lowkey impressed by them sailing right around the Born Sexy Yesterday Trope while flipping it right the hell off by keeping Kory and Dick apart for a good long bit and then going to great pains to make sure she is his equal if not his superior in detective shit, amnesia or not.
• Not impressed by fridging a potential big sister figure for Rachel to further Dick's manpain
• The dynamics between Dick and Rachel and Kory and Rachel and Gar and Rachel are EVERYTHING I WOULD HAVE EVER WANTED and I am SO SORRY i doubted the decision to make Gar and Rachel younger kids while Dick and Kory are in their late twenties. 14/16 is a bit of an EH age gap but gar and rachel feel very aligned in maturity to me so I don't particularly mind.
• Just. "I feel something inside of me too." "A Great Shadow--"/"A Light--" "*What*?" is fucking genius and a great way to highlight how they each view their powers. The 'I love your hair"/"Your hair's great" as the first interaction between Gar and Rachel at the Arcade. Just. Mwah. Chefkiss.
• I have genuine emotions about Gar Logan as well. Poor kid, goddammit. Poor baby child
• Please stop making his transformations sound Like That though, it's so gross.
• I cannot wait for them to like officially become a team, I just finished ep 4 today and I am??? Pumped???

 

If the character creator and armor crafting systems in DA4 won't be at least similar to Anthem I will ship myself to Bioware headquarters to cry on their doormat and make them feel bad

• aerial maneuvering is REALLY fun and intuitive once you figure out how the flying actually gets activated (this is me directly calling out the controller layout not being properly relayed in the "tutorial section" where it is supposed to be, that part was genuinely kind of a shitshow, full offense bioware)
• I think i figured out what wasn't vibing right with me wrt the aesthetic? It's that Fort Tarvis, most generic set dressing costume design and the sound all heavily rely on and reference middle eastern design aesthetics, but like... all the named characters you get to interact with besides the Matthiases maybe are white british folks. Which has quite the uncomfortable feel and implication ngl.
• still luv the loving nods to Stargate's everything
• guns go boom, me likey
• i still really wish I could have gotten the game running enough to test the storm javellin out.
• addendum: fem!Freelancer is joined by Matti's, erryl's and sumner's voice actor, that was a good performance, and portraying three extremely disparate characters while still vaguely sounding like the guy initially did on all three is PRETTY hard so hats off my dude.
• Zoe still remains deadass one of the worst performances i have heard recently, jesus she sounded so bored and unenthusiastic about the role.
• I think Amal's performance was mostly ruined by the weirdass animations but they were VERY distracting on him especially.
