fun fact, earlier today i was listening to the soundtrack in the car with my mom and i started crying when "undertale" (the track) really got going. my mom was like "what's wrong?? are you okay?" and I just had to say that I was sad because of the music. I also talked her ear off about the game which, uh. she didn't really understand but was like "well I'm glad you're excited about it" (still better than my dad who was like "i don't? care??? i don't understand video games") Spoiler: endgame spoilers aaaaa i just love the last bit when you get to the capital, it's so... like, i had no idea how I'd even explain it to my mom, because how do I say "well, at the start of the game there's this house with this nice lady and then you have to fight her and leave but she was really nice, okay, and you're sad because you have to leave. and then all the way at the other end of the game is this other house that looks just like hers!! and like!! the music!! is really hopeful and uplifting and its got the main theme of the game and! i cried! and now I'm crying again! also you learn how two kids died and they obviously used to live in that house and he keeps trying to recreate her pie recipe which is sad, okay, don't judge me. i love this game." anyway yes, also who else cried at the text you get for examining the mirror in the hallway in Asgore's house lol
and they just... hold on spoipers Spoiler the game doesn't MAKE you kill Flowey. Flowey makes a good pitch for it even, but the game didn't MAKE me do it, I even kind of sort of decided I probably SHOULD kill him, because he said he was going to kill everyone, and he COULD... but... the game LETS YOU not kill him, it is a GAME and it is MY GAME so I GET TO NOT KILL HIM. Even if he's going to kill everyone, I FUCKING GET TO NOT KILL HIM. IT IS SO RARE THAT A GAME GIVES ME THIS AND I WANT IT. and... Spoiler azriel. oh god. the plan. the kids' plan. "Just six, right?" D: D: D: D: stop being dust so i cn hug you gain brudder :(
falls over cries about skeletons why did I sign up for this Spoiler I can't deal with Papyrus-as-final-boss AU at all, but I keep seeking it out. ;_;
So I spent the entire night falling into flower hell. I have many feelings and little idea what to do with them.
The track "Undertale" is honestly one of the best in the game...... the fucking tone and impact of it is just so perfectly applied. /cries
My favorite track is still Waterfall, but Memory and Undertale are perfect. Every track is like, perfect?? Also, I am gonna start a compilation of fan art of Sans that I like. I love Sans, ok. I'm trying to be nonchalant about how much I love this fat skeleton but I can't. Help me.
Yeah, his attacks are kinda meant to be overwhelming, barely dodgeable bullshit. That being said, it's actually one of the more forgiving fights in the game, IMO - none of his attacks do that much damage, there's a steady supply of healing items, and even if you die, it doesn't set you back too far. Once you get the hang of the gimmicks, it's certainly a helluva lot easier than Asgore.
re the neutral final boss fight: it's not too hard to survive until you get an ACT, and you'll get a bunch of green bullets once you use it Spoiler: spoilery tip for those who haven't fought him omega flowey will also overwrite one of his save states whenever you use an ACT so you don't get too far set back even if he does kill you and crash your game again
okay but a creepy thing I realized Spoiler: Shyren Sooo y'know that cute Shy Siren you encounter in the waterfalls in that one room? That encounter is forced if I'm right. See if you kill her only her head vanishes, and not the body. That alone is weird and seems significant. But you know what's especially unsettling? If you play a Genocide Run and deplete the enemy counter in the big room with the many echoflowers and the glowing water (It's the room right before the Shyren Encounter) even after getting the 'But Nobody Came...' encounters, the shyren encounter still gets forced. You get a single encounter with a single Shyren in it, after killing her the encounters go back to the depleted enemies encounters. Given that Undyne has a unique line if you only killed Shyren too... What the hell is up with this Monster...? Why does she get such special treatment? Also the flavor text for Shyren is creepy in Genocide Runs. 'Despite Hiding Shyren somehow attacks you.' Okay, Chara, you keep rationalizing it that way. Or is one part of Shyren's appearance (like you know the body that doesn't vanish) a different entity from the named monster and forces Shyren into the encounter with Frisk/Chara?
@IvyLB Spoiler There's been a fair amount of speculation about Shyren. On the official Undertale tumblr, one of the most recent posts is entitled "important info," and at the end of it is this: besides, it’s rude to talk about people that are listening, right? not everyone is as tough as my brother. anyway, here’s the important info: uhhh… about shyren’s lower body. doing some research might help you. but i won’t blame you if you dont. they say those without blame should cast the first stone. but… my stone’s covered in sprinkles. so, actually, keep doing whatever you want, kid. Seems pretty clear that this is written by Sans. The bolded parts are what have brought about a lot of speculation. The first bolded part is a pretty clear reference to W.D. Gaster (some links if you are unfamiliar), who is the subject of much Undertale theorizing/speculation himself. The question some people are asking is: is Shyren's lower body related to Gaster in some way? Is her lower body a piece of him? (link to undertale forum discussion of shyren)
The fact that Papyrus feeds Sans' pet rock for him and that he feeds it sprinkles is the most precious goddamn thing, I swear.
I just started playing and GOATMOM NO. GOATMOM I AM GOING TO GO MAKE FRIENDS WITH THE SKELETONS AND THE FISHKNIGHT. Also Flowey needs to shut the hell up.
I know! These skelebros are the best bros. i'm not sure who i'd read as the older brother bc they both take care of each other and it's awesome. also who's ready for feels and/or suffering? something i found while browsing through various artists' undertale tags: Spoiler: neutral ending spoiler this is the ending you get if you do a pacifist run, including befriending Undyne, and then kill Mettaton, turning your run into a neutral one. It's depressing as hell! wow! i mean, i read over the (obviously full-o-spoilers) chart with all the endings but I somehow skipped over that one. it's a variation on the "family" ending, as it's labelled there, and oh my god?? i love how the different endings really feel like your choices mattered, and also push you towards the pacifist ending. I'm really glad I didn't get that ending, wow.
I think Undyne ends up unhappy most endings. Losing her house and job seem like things that just. Happen to her.
I just started my asshole-neutral playthrough and I've been staring at this froggit for two minutes trying to convince myself to fight it. I didn't think this would be so hard. I'm not even doing genocide this time. Spoiler Also, Flowey's bit at the beginning where he begs you to leave everyone in peace... ouch. :(
