non-draining pots can work for things that don't mind sitting in water, like a carnivorous plant, but imo one of the best uses for 'decorative' pots is as a tray/cover for things in slightly smaller, less pretty pots. just plunk the smaller pot with its plant in the bigger pot, and now it has a drainage tray and decorative cover, with just enough breathing room for the plant inside.
I once put holes in my ceramic pots using a nail, a hammer, a round file, and a lot of patience tbh a drill bit meant for ceramic or tile is probs a better way to go

@devils-avocado Thinking of working on that poor little malformed tree a bit tomorrow :B I nipped off a few of the branches I was sure had to go, but I have Anxiety about biting off something that should stay/ leaving something that'll fuck it up on the remainder. I still got a month or two before starting the new seeds for the season, but looking at my seed catalogs is both scratching and irritating the itch.
All my older plants died, but lately people have been giving me succulents and it's been working out really well! It really helps that I don't have to water them as much. Succulents: depression gardening. So here's some pictures, because I want to show off my plants and also my friend made me a discworld pot for christmas and it's amazing. Spoiler: Succulents! I put my little rhododendron bonsai in its little winter house today because it's finally supposed to get real cold tonight. (its winter house is a thick clear plastic tote (a tree house, if you will))
Accidentally snapped off a whole ass branch of my rosemary! D: Remembered @Kiyarasabel had a little container of rooting hormone! :D If this works I'm going to take some cuttings from my apple and cherry trees (if it doesn't work I'm still going to take some cutting from my fruit trees, but I'm going to wait until I can order some rootstock and experiment with grafting :P )
Last time is was all lettuces, but apparently a lot of people got cabbage and a tomato variety in the 2017 orders, so I think it's just down to whatever they have an excess stock of.
Also in today's plant news, I rescued a broken off bit of my co-worker's zebrina and stuck it in a cup of water until it rooted, and tonight I got her a pretty pot.
SEEDS HAVE ARRIVED!! Custom shipping packages are super cute and have adds and order blanks on the back (I'm very intrigued by this Sugar Baby, I have never heard of a bushing behavior pattern melon? Shit like this is why I'm addicted to Baker Creek and spent almost $50 in seeds just this year). Free seeds are two (2) tomato varieties and some bee balm! That's on top of the other two tomatoes I already ordered. I'm gonna have so many tomatoes this year, guys.
i usually get my seeds from the local garden store, which is very cute and weird, and run out of an old repair garage, and the lady gives me free plants all the time. but i am intrigued by this baker creek place and might need to check it out.
