something that like, took work to help, but helps now, is reminding myself that my emotions aren't permanent, and this feeling of sadness and anxiety will ease and pass. super didn't help when i first started trying it (i just got stuck in a guilt spiral of feeling guilty about how i wasn't feeling better, and feeling angry that it wasn't helping), but having made it to a better place now, things like that do help now. didn't mention it in the first one because ymmv wildly with that one tho

@GlassesBlu I don't know if this is relevant to you or not, but my mood swings are way less extreme when I've been eating well/regularly, so that might be a factor that will help over time, if less in-the-moment?

I find sometimes that doing minor chores can help with mood no. 2 - dishes+music or podcast is my favorite. Doing Something is reassuring and the podcast is a good mental distraction.

I want to get a new email address, but I'm having trouble coming up with a good name...I want it to be a kinda 'professional' one I can use for irl stuff without embarrassment, but I don't want to use my real name in it or anything. anyone have any ideas?

Ever since my father moved out, it seems that my mother has been feeding my cat dog food. The idea is that "it's cheaper than buying both kinds, and she'll eat it anyway! I'm pretty sure she likes it better too". Is this unhealthy, and if so, does anyone have any tips on getting her to stop that?

So, my moirail has started hormones and I am extremely happy for her! She ... hasn't come out as trans to anyone but me and her doctors afaik. I am fine with her doing that in her own time and in her own way, but I also am worried that she will start to look/sound different to people she spends a lot of time around, and then this will no longer be something she can control. I know most of her friends/family will be cool with things, so that isn't such a big concern. I want to support her, obviously. Does that involve gentle pressure to talk to people, or should I just keep biting my tongue?

To my knowledge estrogen hormones don't actually change your voice on their own, so there's no risk of that, as for looking different, the changes generally take a while to kick in. Presuming she knows all of this, I think it's best to trust that she's either got her plan or that she understands that as the months come and go, she'll be getting some pretty obvious body changes, not all of which can be easily brushed off or hidden with clever clothing application.

I found the blog Straight Guy Reviews of Bad Romance Novels, and I'm wondering if there'd be an audience for a similar baffled-reviewer Asexual Reads Romance/Explicit Books if I can do it without being mean-spirited. Is that infringing on his idea?

I mean, Smart Bitches, Trashy Books has been a thing for a while now too--reviewing and reading romance books for a blogging platform isn't a unique idea. If you can do it cleverly, you'll have an audience, but the edge between 'funny' and 'mean-spirited' is a hard line to walk. You'd probably want to host it outside of tumblr, too.

If I could play up my bafflement at the unrealistic aspects as MY problem rather than the writers', that would probably go a long way towards it, but that might give aces a bad rep?

i wouldn't worry too much about "giving aces a bad rep." it's not your job to provide a good rep. as another ace, i think the idea is kinda funny, and i would be interested. i don't really care how that impacts how non aces think about us, i guess.

Then I figure I can try it! I need to give it a test run or two to make sure I'm not just going into "I don't like this" over and over, but I don't think I will - I can pick out bits I do like as well. Where's a good place to do this? Dreamwidth, maybe?

my go to for this sort of platform would be wordpress? just for ease of engagement as a reader - it's easy for me to interact with blogs i follow on wordpress without having an account, but substantially more difficult with dreamwidth
