that gets me shaking my fist at clouds every time. with bonus bleak laughter when you find the occasional other-fandom artifact that the find/replace missed when they changed it from sasunaru to drarry or whatever. proof they don't give a crap about the characters at all.
Obligatory mention of the "Victuuri Hogwarts AU" YOI Badfic Friend found one time that had a "cauldTakeshi" in it.
I dunno who Takeshi is,I don´t go there, but still tried to imagine a Takeshi (generic anime person) with a cauldron for a head.
yeah, or they hadn't posted it yet so they just redid it for their new fandom. for me, the fun of fanfic is imagining what these characters i didn't create would be like in this other situation, so when ficcers write placeholder characters or cardboard tropes and slap fandom names on them, i'm just like... why bother?
takeshi is from naruto. i don't think there's a takeshi anywhere in 'yuri on ice'. speaking of which, i understand that people like to spell japanese yuri with two u's so we can distinguish him from russian yuri, but i also understand that in the actual show the japanese characters started calling russian yuri 'yurio' for that same reason, so why is japanese yuri's name the one we're changing in fandom? idgi.
The fic that made me post wasn't a find/replace fic, it was essentially original fic, with pasted on names. But yeah, I feel you. :D
I think it's bc there's also some ambiguity with how to romanize the kanji in Katsuki Yuri's name, which is a problem a lot of Anime/Manga fandoms run into. I've seen everything between Yuri, Yuuri and Yūri under the sun, and the wiki apparently uses the double u spelling but points out the official spelling uses just one u Idk I use Yuratchka to refer to the angry russian child, bc it's just. so gosh darn cute. Frankly nothing is half as bad as romanization discourse in the D.Gray-Man fandom, where I am still not 100% on what the official spelling of one of the names is despite owning tankobon.
Well yeah, but then you run into the problem of: the title spells out Yuri (ユーリ) but the actual kanji for Yuri's (given) name is 勇利 (full kanji is 勝生 勇利), so that's where the confusion on how to romanize the name comes from, I think!
I've been assuming people were spelling it Yuuri to make sure it was even less likely to confuse him with Russian-Yuri.
i decided to search "cauldTakeshi" to see if i could find the fic, and i found this http://lindsayribar.tumblr.com/post/166719715738/the-real-seebs-downtroddendeity and now i want to compile a list of these find/replace errors bc they are hilarious
oh, i was wrong about there not being a takeshi in YOI. he's the triplets' dad, nishigori. i just forgot his first name, if i ever heard it. that guy ^
I found a link on FFA, but it looks like they deleted it. Possibly because, you know, people on an anon meme realized it was search-replace Drarry fic and were laughing about it.
the idea of viktor being squished into a role intended for draco makes my writer brain flail in horror. they're both grandstanding blondes and that's it, that's where the resemblance ends. if viktor reminds me of any other character in fiction it's probably tony stark, not draco malfoy.
