You know what’s worse than a reaper leviathan? Hearing constant reaper leviathan noises around your base for three in game days but not being able to find the damn thing!!
Oh, I didn’t know you could scan for them! But they aren’t actually in my database yet. The only time so far I’ve been up close with one was up by the front of the Aurora and it crunched my Seamoth and left me to run like hell with my seaglide. THAT was a fun encounter :D I’m pretty sure the one I’m hearing now is a either stuck in a rock somewhere, or just a sound bug, because going by the noises it should have been sitting about 50 meters from my base for the last ingame week. If the sounds are still going when I start the game up again tomorrow I might either go hunting with my new prawn suit so I can scan for it, or try using the console to find it. Another question: does anyone know of a way to keep biters away from your base? They keep chasing off my squiddle friend :( Would something like a perimeter of grav traps do the trick?
I've gotten pretty far into Subnautica, but I sorta stopped playing it nearing the end-game. Dreading trying to navigate the end-game area with the Cyclops made me put it off for long enough that I just forgot T_T Might give it another shot to finally finish it off, though.
Alternatively, you can actually get down there with just a seaglide, a rebreather, a few first aid kits, and three high-capacity oxygen tanks, which you'd swap out once the one you've equipped is empty (so, when your oxygen level is below 45). It's a speedrunning trick intended to quickly get there from the surface, so if you start in your Cyclops in the Lost River for example, it gets a lot easier. You do need to know exactly where you're going, though.
Screenshots!!! Spoiler Meet the family! the W.S. (Watson's Submarine) Eyeburn the W.S. Safety the W.M. (Watson's Mech) Juju and my squiddle friend! who keeps clipping through the wall of my base, the rascal and here’s my base itself as it stands right now planning much more expansion, though I might just move the whole thing nearer to one of the alien portals, not sure. Right now it’s on the northeastern edge of the western grassy plain.
I prefer having the luxury to explore, honestly. Just need to get used to using the PRAWN suit haha. I brought the Seamoth down into the Lost River as far as she'd take me. I just wish I could get more depth upgrades for her because she really is my favorite way to navigate. Prawn Suit and Cyclops feel so finnicky and I can't stop crashing into stuff with the Cyclops even when I'm not in the River.
I have been doing water aerobics with a baby ghostie for an hour now looking for nickel. Does it just not spawn in some areas of the LR?
Best place to find Nickel is near the ghost ray tree. 100% safe, it takes a while for them to spawn though.
I had to clear my caches in game to get nickel and stuff to spawn at that point. If you do it too often it can be a bit cheaty, but if the game is legitimately not spawning mats then you're just fixing the bug. Guide Here. A more in depth explanation of why this seems to occasionally happen is that subnautica tracks all resources you picked up, where they were, and what they were. If you pick up enough, the game starts to have trouble tracking what you have/haven't picked up and then doesn't spawn resources in, because it either thinks you already grabbed them, when you didn't, or the system just gets overwhelmed.
The way Subnautica's spawning works is weird, honestly. I can't tell if the world is as it is, or if it spawns new stuff in periodically. I know that Nickel spawns dynamically, but like, are the limestone outcroppings and stuff created at worldgen? I've always wondered.
The impression I always got from watching speedruns was that generation consistently occurs within the same region - i.e. the same area will usually contain the same sort of items - but exact placement is variable to some degree. Not sure how true this is, but I've seen more than one runner scramble around in the lava zone trying to find things when they manage to navigate Out of Bounds to a T so I assume there's a random element that shuffles things occasionally. I've also heard the world used to run out of materials when it first launched but there's gradual generation every so often.
yea, things generate over time, mostly when you enter the a new area. It used to just, not generate at all sometimes, that doesn't happen too often anymore unless you're very near late game, at which point it usually has issues for me.
Tbh I just got enough Nickel to make everything I'd ever need Nickle to make so I wouldn't have to go do it again.
Got that reaper leviathan noise bug again and I think I discovered the source - the game seems to think I have one in my alien containment unit tower. Man, I wish, a pet reaper would be absolutely the coolest. My cuddlefish got stuck inside on the second floor for a while (and temporarily scared the shit out of me when I couldn’t find him), I wonder if that could have caused it somehow? Oh oh also: I took a little trip into the Dunes and now I have two cuddlefish :D Plus I finally scanned a reaper! Next I gotta take the prawn suit out there with the drill arm and get revenge for my first seamoth. Re: nickel, I eventually thought to take my prawn suit under the green acid and found two big hunks of the stuff right under my nose :P
Spoiler: mid-lategame spoilers Theory: cuddlefish were the species that the precursors genetically meddled with to make the Warpers. They’re the only two creatures we meet with that body structure (at least, the only ones I’ve met so far), the Precursors were studying a cuddlefish egg at their sunken lab, and as far as I’m aware cuddlefish are the most intelligent native species that isnt a leviathan.
