i went to the marvel wiki looking for a famous catchphrase to title this thread with and i want y'all to know that it was a close run between stan lee's "excelsior!" and machine man's "my robot brain needs beer." anyhow, this is a catch-all thread for the whole big, awkward, self-contradictory, multiversal, brilliant, weird, dumb, gorgeous, hilarious and heartbreaking ball of rubber bands that is the marvel hero stories. comics, tv, movies, even games. want to complain about the x-men's suits? want to pet deadpool's weird, lumpy, murderous head? want to ship tony stark with literally everyone? want to speculate on what would happen if rocket raccoon tried to steal bucky's arm? this is the place! fic recs and art also super welcome. dc stuff only in combo or crossover with marvel, please. although comparative superherology should definitely be a college course that exists.
I've already said in the xmen thread but the xmens dark phoenix arc is coming out in theatres this year! Im fucking ecstatic, the phoenix arc was heartbreaking in the uncanny xmen comics, i really hope it turns out ok. Tbh im kinda disappointed with quite a lot of the mcu xmen series (not that i wont watch them still, cause y'know. Special interest.) and I'll be sad if they dont at least put a strong effort into it working well with the content they've already established. I will say though, both the quicksilver and magneto they've got going on are honestly imo the best portrayal ive ever seen of either character, comics included.
irt the Harry Potter stuff from the 'is there a thread for this' thread: Cap is nice and values fairness, but his whole thing is he hates bullies and threw himself on a grenade and didn't care about being too sick to enlist because he wanted to punch Nazis, so I'm pretty sure Steve "jumping out of planes with no parachute is my favorite hobby" Rogers is a Gryffindor.
I am not super into the mcu and also the first person to complain about heroes getting sorted into gryffindor by default but Steve Rogers is 100% a Gryffindor, and furthermore I don't really think Thor would be in gryffindor, though I'm not sure I can back that gut feeling up
I think Thor def starts off as a ready fire aim gryffindor type, but maybe mellows into hufflepuff? Idk he was a fighty glory seeker in a way that feels gryff to me. Like, glory seeking as big and brash and thoughtless, as opposed to the ambition of slytherin which I think tends towards more... thought out? Not just, “I heard jotunheim is a problem let’s go punch em!” But he also does grow out of that arrogance and jump first ask questions later thing over the course of the films.
For me the decisive sorting hat consideration is what house the character in question would have picked at age 11, so I think Thor is also a Gryffindor
he can strategize, but he's got no ambition. he just wants to get the job done, and he'll go through a concrete wall to do it. he's a badger if ever there was a badger. (badgers will kick your ass, you know. people keep forgetting that about them. i'm slytherin to the bone, but huffs are the one type i won't mess with.)
oh my god you guys i have just discovered a surprising fact: 'angela: asgard's assassin' is fucking amazeballs. i started reading it expecting to have to put up with a bunch of chrome bikini porn poses to get to the funny GOTG moments and maybe some loki. instead it's the story of a stabby idiot and her sarcastic trans girlfriend and all the badass women they fight along the way. with bonus gamora, and a side of Freyja Is Not Surprised. and the art is fucking gorgeous. and there's funny zombies. i love funny zombies.
I dunno, Chiomi, I think there's an argument to be made for Slytherin. His methods are Gryffindor, but he's absolutely determined to personally change the world, and absolutely convinced he can do it. That reads pretty ambitious to me. Also... ngl, while obviously we all agree that bullies and Nazis are terrible, there's something really Slytherin about your entire philosophy being "I don't like THOSE GUYS, because they hurt MY PEOPLE." Slytherin with Gryffindor publicity, y/n?
I mean, maybe? But it's also he's going to personally save the world, I think, which is the difference. Like, I have more ambition than my two Slytherin roommates put together, but I am still so Gryffindor it hurts.
Is this online somewhere, or what? "A stabby idiot and her sarcastic trans girlfriend" sounds like something i'd enjoy.
