Yeah, the original plan was 4 seasons of 13 each. this episode was meant to be a mid-season one.

 

wait so how many episodes are there? I still haven't had time/opportunity to watch. But I am very excited.

 

there are 7 episodes in s2! and i believe all, or nearly all, 52 episodes have been completed, or are in their last stages.

my hope is that once we have them all, someone can make a 4x13 breakup of all episodes and we can watch them in that context.

the crimson wastes are aesthetic (tm) as a region, like dang, giant skulls? western music? this panders to me

haven't watched since the season with the ball. heard too much about how annoying glimmer gets and I had a hard time with her to begin with. I want a spin off show with Bow.

 

That's in season 1? I wouldn't say Glimmer gets annoying though. I'm pretty fond of her arc, it's not at all where I thought they'd go in s1 but it's fantastic.

But, of course, you don't have to watch the show if it didn't grab you in the first season.

 

Might be a thing where I stick to fanfiction, cause dammit I want Proper angst that gets Resolved and for Adora and Catra to kiss somebody even if it's not each other, but I ship them when they're still both with the horde. although a real slow burn redemption for Catra would be good shit. though again, Catra/Adora is not Otp. I dont really have one for the show

that trope where The Bad Guys Win AU is also kind of fun though tbh. Capturing someone and then flirting with them like a little shit just because you can is a special flavor of trash that I enjoy

does anyone have some good post-finale catradora fic recs because my gay lil heart is YEARNING also I have been mainlining this pairing the last couple days so maybe I can offer some links when I'm less AAAAA about it all

Also also are there any good thingies about Catra's physiology/race? I heard somewhere she was a magicat but that might just be fanon??

EDIT: I just started to read this thread from the top and feel like I should be clear - I watched this show totally void of previous context. I was slightly too young for any of the classic 80s cartoons to make a dent in my radar, and I was unaware of any previous hype of it. I am a total noob when it comes to any other related stuff. Plz be kind.

 

So! Magicats are a thing in the 80s cartoon, Catra kidnaps their queen and steals her magic mask but doesn't have any of her own powers. The mask seems to be just something she picked up somewhere in the new cartoon though.

 

The mask is just a fancy fright zone hairband, its just to keep the mane tamed

 

I binged the whole show on a whim and also as a distraction from Stuff, plus I saw all the good reception from the finale so I was like 'hmmm interesting... perhaps I shall watch She Ra.

I liked it a lot! Never watched the original (not my time), I rly like the characters, and their actions made sense to me based on their various elements. I think like a character who im not good at reading but I'm p interested in is Shadow Weaver, (eta nvrmnd I get her deal now I think) she was herself until the end.
