We were going to paint minis last week but while he brought the paints and all, my partner forgot our heroforge minis. The DM had a bunch of goblins and whatnot he wanted painted, though, so we got some practice in. Now I just need to work out how to paint a nice metallic gold that's not sparkly. This is my paladin Hrrkik. Her very cheerful facial expression reminds me of T-Rex from Dinosaur Comics. Spoiler
Oh good, a place to talk about DnD! I futzed around in heroforge today and produced my gnome, the archaeologist Erwin von Eerwigg, PhD. (It's not his real name, he doesn't actually have a PhD, and the local university has politely asked him to stop sending them bogus research and fake artifacts.) The boy – german-accented fightlock extraordinaire, very good at rodeo, surprisingly guileless for a professional hack:
my boy Petric, 'undead elf meatsuit piloted by a brainworm', roguelock, Robotprotector and carrier of MANY knifes. so many. More than heroforge will allow me to use.
i've found that you can make them look alright if you mess around with the proportions enough. it also helps if they’re wearing something with a skirt.
i tried to make murphy but you can only get a duster if there's no shirt underneath??? and the cowboy hat has a bizarro thick brim, and the cowboy boots are huge and weird and i just. alas. i'd make him in a tank top, but you can't specify one arm as mechanical and the rest as normal. they're certainly offering a lot more options than last time i looked, though. it's fun to play with.
are you sure about the duster? i could have sworn that there was one option with a shirt and one without. i might be thinking of the trenchcoat, though
aw. well, it seems like they do a lot of updates, so maybe one of these days they'll add a shirt option!
for proper murphyizing, it should come with a sisters of mercy t-shirt, slightly ripped, and a beat up acoustic guitar. :D i tried to give him his revolvers, but they were hilariously huge and looked like the gun equivalent of those foam hands you get at ball games, which is about when i gave up. :D
yeah, a lot of the accessories look ridiculous that big. i'm sure they look a lot better an inch high (also the reason for the stubby legs!) but zoomed in like that it just looks silly. i've never gotten a minifig from heroforge, but i've painted a whole lotta warhammer minis in my day and the proportions are always wacky when you really look at them.
My party opted to start chucking the "protection money" owed by an NPC to a gang over the palisade one copper at a time This was the point at which the DM broke down cry-laughing (Quoth he: I've had parties that murder their way out of every situation, and parties that diplomacy their way out of every situation, but you're the first party I've had that solves problems by just pissing off the opposition until they don't want to deal with you anymore)
i got to guest in my sibling's long-running campaign today (and will get to keep doing so throughout summer)! it's all very exciting cause they're a GREAT group - super comfortable, got that nice balance between messing around and actually tense moments, and they're all very nice about me not knowing what on earth i'm doing half the time since they're all level 10 and i've never played a character that high level before +++ i know way too little about the world building :') anyways I spent a lot of the session just observing because I had yet to be introduced - there WAS a plan for when I was supposed to meet up with the party, but things didn't go according to plan and two hours into the session they'd only made it through the first two lines of the DM's planning... (They're great people so if I hadn't reassured them I was fine waiting, they would've sped things up for me, but I really enjoyed just watching them go, honestly.) Since it's taking so long, during the break the DM and one of my friends are chatting with me, considering moving my introduction to a different circumstance, and then my friend makes a joke suggestion... and both the DM and I jump on it. So then instead of getting to meet them on the road, battle-ready and badass... I come strolling into the kitchen the morning after wearing only a sheet cause I'm one of the PC's older brother's one night stand. Roleplaying that out was so much fun because everyone in that apartment saw more people than they were expecting and the main party are established heroes (and the PC whose brother I slept with had only just met them). Can you imagine coming downstairs one morning and not only is your one night stand still in your bedroom but your sister has invited the Avengers over for a sleepover and now they're talking about how they're going to go have a chat with the Pope. other highlights included one character starting the whole session off with an incredibly kickass 1v1 rooftop fight which they won, proving themselves to be supremely competent... and then proceeded to fall flat on their ass in front of MANY people as they attempted to climb down the building afterwards, and also one character trying to feed the Big Evil bad info, which later turned out to be correct (the info: the group has a cursed sword. One morning character A has left, leaving a note that says he's taking the sword with him. Evil Cult People want the sword. One remaining group member attempts to divert attention from character A and the sword by claiming character B, who is still with the group, has the sword. The sword is still in the bag of holding, which IS in fact in the possession of character B. this is what happens when you try to double bluff your teammates)
We’re restarting our homebrew campaign tonight after about a year and I’m extremely excited. The last session ended with the party accidentally introducing the 4 year old godling to the concepts of cake and mortality and I really want to see the consequences.
My sister painted a griffin mini to look like a budgie and I love him. My terrible terrible photo doesn't do it justice. Spoiler: lorg eta: the black areas were done with Semple's black 2.0, if anyone was wondering how that would look on a mini.
The DM says it's not scary now, but having been bitten by an angry normal-sized budgie I'd be frigging terrified of it, especially since I've seen budgies demonstrate more problem-solving skills than your typical bird of prey.
A parrot, or parrot relative the size of a car is horrifying. That's a very smart t-rex coming for you. And it can fly
