I'm unfortunately too heavy handed to pet most bugs, but I like looking at them a lot. Good friends

this is excellent reporting. i've got decent arachnophobia and jumping spiders frighten me with their jumping, so it's good to know they are friendly.

  4. I don’t pet bugs usually, I just let them go about their business.

  10. Are (American) coins called cents because they’re each a certain percent of a dollar?

yup! centum is Latin for "hundred", and percent literally means "per hundred" or "out of a hundred". "cent" in the sense of "hundredth" comes from that.

This caught my eye and delighted me. Not the best screenshot but the label there says 蜂の子, read はちのこ or hachi no ko.

子, read こ or ko, means child or young (noun). 子猫, こねこ, ko•neko is child cat, or kitten. 子犬, こいぬ, ko•inu is child dog, or puppy.

The の/no in 蜂の子 is a particle for connecting nouns that don’t already come bundled as a single word. 蜂 means bee, wasp, or hornet, understood as most likely yellowjacket in this context. All together it literally means hornet children. Baaaaaaaby yellowjackets, you guys!

This book is weirdly heteronormative. (I think that’s the right combo of words for the way reading this book made me feel.)

i just remembered a story my grandpa told me and wanted to share it with someone, so I'll tell it in here.

he was in the korean war, and he said when it came to laundry the options were either to go to the river and wash it themselves, or pay a fee and have the local village ladies do the washing for them. so, like everyone else, grandpa paid the fee. well, he owned one pair of these wild cheetah print boxers and this lady absolutely ADORED them. at one point she came to him and offered to do his laundry for free for like a month if he gave them to her, so of course he was like "uh. okay, if you want?? are you sure??"

    lady was goddamn sure.

lady wore them under her outfit every time she did washing, because then unlike the other ladies she wouldn't be all exposed while crouching down. she could tie her skirt up and CROUCH LIKE A FUCKING CHAMPION in a pair of wild ass cheetah underoos.
