I spent about an hour one evening trying to figure out why my car wasn't parked at my house on google street view. I worked nights and slept in the day. Where was I? Where did I go? I was combing satellite views of every parking lot in town until I realized it was summer in some of the views and winter in others. :saitama_ok:

practicing making rolags with my hand cards while watching bon appetit videos. my favorite part is when they make fun of brad's new jersey accent. fugeddaboudit. (he doesn't actually say fugeddaboudit. but 'brioche' comes out 'briodge' every time.)

i love the way he acts like it's just him and his friend vinnie filming for shits and giggles. i mean he's not pretending he's not an employee of the bon appetit test kitchen or anything. but he keeps addressing vincent the cameraman (no one else calls him vinnie) and bossing him around like "commere getta shotta this" and "here vinnie hold that" and "that's all i got for you today, vinnie, geddouddahere."

vinnie retaliates by adding sound effects and cartoon commentary in post.

i've also learned how to make fermented hot sauce, but that's secondary to the way "wourder = water" flashes on the screen every time brad tries to say water.

quoting this because it's succinct and pithy, and needs to be here where i can look at it more.

more grumbling about archaeologists not putting themselves in past folks' shoes: i just saw someone who teaches flint knapping say the lion statue must've been 'a generational thing' and no one person would've carved it, because the tools go dull so fast and you have to keep making more. are you kidding me? you know how much downtime prehistoric people must've had in the winter? going outside in the cold burns calories SO FAST, you're better off not hunting at all unless you can be sure of getting something big. you can't just come home to a big mug of creamy cocoa, ok? you can go out and burn 4000 calories hunting a rabbit, or you can stay home and chew pemmican and work on your art project. that statue was carved by someone who was bored out of their fucking skull for four months solid, not multiple generations of revered community craftsmen.

for proof, please go to ravelry and look at the people who have jobs and/or children but still make shetland lace shawls. jfc. 'a generational thing'. no, sir, you just aren't bored enough.

signed, someone who's stuck indoors most of the time year round, and could definitely carve that statue with flint tools in one winter if i had a source of flint.

a more general gripe: they always cut green wood that would have to season. i'm p sure our neolithic grandfolks used deadfall wherever possible. and don't go at it with the stone hand axe if you can lever-break it with a regular rock and your foot.

why do ppl keep putting gold leaf in food??? it has no flavor! it has no nutritive function! it doesn't even look good in anything but clear liqueur or on top of dark chocolate! it's a complete waste of resources! augh!

(yes, i know it's to make things Look Expensive so they can jack the price up. but i'm a big sperg so it just looks like That's Not Food to me.)

edit: and you can't drink goldschlager straight bc it's so damn sweet, so however nice it looks in the bottle, when you put it in cocoa or something it's just like. there's. something in here. that's not beverage. did you wash your hands. what's wrong with this drink.

despite me yelling at clouds a lot in my blogthread today, i'm actually having a really nice time. seebs put a faucet in my big rubbermaid water tub so i can drain fiber wash water without having to pick up a heavy thing. it drains really slow, but i can just leave it dribbling on the greenhouse floor and walk away. that's going to be super pleasant in the winter, hanging out with some plants in the sunshine while everything's iced down outside. right now it's pretty hot in there tho.

pretty sure barb is silently rejoicing that i won't be shitting up the kitchen with dirty wool anymore :D :D

Goldschlager I can see because I love glittery food, idk some magpie part of me just wants to eat the shiny thing. Big wads of gold leaf are just bullshit though.

Hey Jesse do you have like, tanks of water or something in the greenhouse to help moderate the temperature?

it's where my heated therapy pool is, so it actually stays above room temperature year round except if we have a severe cold snap, in which case it can get down to 'sweater weather'.

how big exactly is your greenhouse? every time you mention it I envision something like a cross between the greenhouse and the bath house from Stardew Valley, which looks cool as hell in my head but I have no idea how close it is to reality.

When you said lil dome I was almost bracing to be underwhelmed. I wasn’t bracing for a geodesic dome with a real door. I braced all wrong! What a cool dome!
