    Rabbit dish brainwave:

Org recipe says to brown the chicken in the pot but listen there's no way i'm gonna fit the rabbit chunks in my biggest pot, it ain't that big.
But what if instead the rabbit gets a roastening in the oven while i do other thinfs, then the squash gets added (because recipe says to oven-roast that) and when both are sufficiently pre-gamed, i transfer to pot (maybe already get some bones out of rabbit at this point), deglace the roasting dish with pome juice to capture all those flavours, and dump the entire liquid in the pot
Then simmer for several hours until remainjng bones fall out, and then i should be ready to eat it

This is gonna be an all day Produktion, but tgat's a snackrifice i'm willing to make

    Recipe!

well, the original calls for chicken but my method for cooking has always been 'the first time around i stick close to the official recipe and then afterwards i freelance this baby'
(admittedly, 'close to the recipe' in the original already meant 'use pome juice instead of pome paste + water' because i could not for the life of me get pome paste in this rural ass area and I'm not driving to München for it)

note to self: putting parchment paper between things before you freeze them is NOT a suggestion. signed, the you who just wrestled three chunks of frozen rabbit apart

additional note: there is in fact more rabbit than memory told me there was. I think using the ribcage + front legs will be enough for this dish. the back parts can go into a more regular stew at some point. also: work out what to do with the kidneys. AND remember to take the frozen head to work because you got a coworker who actually eats that so it won't go to waste.

first verdict on rabbit, which has been oven-roasted and had its first simmer in pome juice: fucking delightful

unrelated to food things: I'm about to get to the climax of the legion fic and I'm worried about losing his 'voice' as emotions happen to him. Urgh.

Maybe draw somewhat on the scene on the quarian homeworld from ME3? That seems to be where he has the most in-canon emotional expression if you're worried.

yeah that's what i'm going for! it's incidentially also the bit I'm currently writing. the reaper just got Nuked From Orbit so the Geth are back on their own and the rush of getting that connection back shook a few things loose and into place for Legion

i am on page 15 and still not done, this was not what i had envisions for the length

    I HAVE FINISHED THE SCENE!!!!

also: belated verdict on the persian rabbit stew:

fucking DELISH. it's savoury and sweet and just a bit tart, and you get the rabbit meat that's basically melted down to fibers, the little chunks of walnuts and the creamy butternut squash on the same spoon and it's such a good mix of texture. esp with the fresh pome seeds on top so you get this occasional burst of fruit when you bite down on one. just. god. tasty. I would make this more often in autumn, but it takes so much time and kinda expensive ingredients...
