it's still a really...complicated and tricky subject and labeling things "hawaiian" right off the bat does ignore a massive amount of bad blood, colonialism, and history I figured they were from hawaii! the local variety of pidgin got its start in the sugarcane plantations and carried forward (with additions and adaptations) to current day. both my parents speak in the dialect to varying degrees, but it does get used in local media a lot for jokes about intimidation, so yeah, I can see how/where it would be an issue for someone absolutely yes there's a hawaii regional accent but because it's not specific to native hawaiians...anyway yeah it's a whole Thing back home
Can we drop the subject, please? This is getting uncomfortably close to you getting upset about the existence of my mom’s trauma from my interpretation, and I know that’s probably not intentional at all and that I’m probably being a jerk here, but it’s really messing me up right now. I’m sorry. EDIT: To clarify, it has nothing to do with media in her case. It’s a PTSD trigger. I think that’s what’s bothering me here, and I know that’s not your intent, but yeah.
that's definitely not what I meant, holy crap I'm sorry it came off like that. very willing to drop it—I was trying to say that "yeah, the accent I think you're talking about sometimes gets used in media for intimidation/aggression, so I can see how it would play even worse into trauma", while also trying to make the point that from hawaii and hawaiian are two separate things that get shoved together a lot in ways that hurt native hawaiians your mom's accent-related trauma is all kinds of valid, no matter what it's caused by
what else would you call a regional accent from hawaii other than hawaiian? i'm not being a dick, i legit don't understand fake edit: oops ok dropping subject, only posting this bc it'll give me the sperg twitchies if i delete
dude, we were communicating past each other and we're both sorry, you don't need to shut up I'm replying to the questions in a different thread and the subject is 100% dropped! back to regularly scheduled fanfiction gripes for all
not exactly a gripe, more like tea i guess, but have any other avengers fans noticed that basically every single post-endgame fic is a fixit? literally no one is willing to write in that canon. <- the tea in question
whenever there's a story where, for one reason or another, multiverses are involved, how come people have to get so up in arms over who gets the "main" name like dude, holy shit this is your time to shine get the stupid nickname of your dreams! IT'S A FANFIC BASED ON A COMIC ABOUT HOCKEY PLAYERS FOR CHRISSAKES YALL HAVE TERRIBLE NICKNAMING SENSE AND LOVE IT
is there an explanation of 'who gets the main name' that i would understand if i don't know hockey rpf?
I swear I'm talking about OMG Check Please! not hockey RPF also it was mainly at "well I'VE been calling him other kent" "you can't do that I've been calling THIS one other kent!" "okay well one can have the first name and one can have the last name" like Y'ALL COME ON EDIT: nothing against hockey RPF! it just hits several specific squicks for me, unfortunately
NO NO IT WAS A FANFIC I SWEAR exact quote: It's a fanfic based on a comic about hockey players EDIT: although if you wanna count ngozi's side art, there's technically a universe where kent and chowder swapped bodies—
oops i saw 'fanfic about hockey players' and missed the 'comic' part, my bad! that'll teach me to forum while most of my attention is on bug youtube :P
you're very valid bugtube is probably a hole akin to a trap spider's web it's also technically about pie and tiny southern former figure skaters
this is my new fandom who ships hades w dionysus, i'm team Didn't Try/Tripping Balls and i'm writing a fic where they fly out the window settle in suburban manila and have beautiful grubs tw: mpreggs
This sounds kind of like the problem I've had with Homestuck smushed-timeline-everyone-exists-together fanfic ideas where I don't want one half of the cast to have the same first names as the other half. With some of the characters I can extract a different shortening of a name, e.g. "Roxanne" becomes Roxy (player) and Anne (Mom), but that doesn't work for names like "Dave".
Lord almighty. Well, maybe the summary isn't a giant red flag and it's actually worth a damn. Let's see whether or not this incredibly witty, well written, clever, and non-cliche fic lives up to the hype, I guess! Thrilling. Okay, it's fine to write mediocre fic, it's fine to not enjoy mediocre fic, but for the love of god, if you're going to write mediocre fic then don't fill your summary with a screed on how your mediocre fic is Superior (tm) to the filthy yaoiz all these people on AO3 write.
I WISH I KNEW edit: And for anyone wondering what fandom, those incredibly dynamic and engaging lines of dialogue were supposed to be Sokka and Zuko.
