anyone have any advice on getting sick pets to eat? my dog had surgery a couple days ago and hasn't eaten since, and as far as I'm aware she didn't eat for at least a day or two beforehand. she's still got a bit of fat on her, you can't feel her ribs or anything, but it's starting to be worrying. we've tried all kinds of food including bone broth, at various temperatures, and we've also tried the thing of smearing a little on her nose so she has to lick it off. she's turned her nose up at everything so far. she's just fine drinking water (in fact she tends to drink so much at a time that she'll throw some of it up a couple minutes later :P). currently we're trying to add a little bit of bone broth to her water at a time so we can hopefully sneak it up on her but that'll take a while.

The only thing I know of is from watching cat fosters, who'll get some wet food mixed with water and syringe it into their mouth to get them to swallow at least some down.. seems like a method easier with small animals than i t might be with a dog though

Yeah, I'd say call your vet. Animals going off feed when they're uncomfortable isn't unusual, they'll have some tips to share and can tell you if/when you should bring her in.

vet has been consulted - our regular vet and the animal hospital we took her to for surgery agree that this is pretty normal but if it continues after tomorrow then we should bring her in. apparently the surgery place has appetite stimulant meds they can give her, and hopefully our regular vet does too since they're about an hour and a half closer.

I'm hoping we can get the meds without actually having to take her to the vet, because she has had more than enough of vets and cars this week. poor dog is NOT a fan of modern medicine :(

Opinions on Wordpress? I’m looking to make a site for my original writing where I post one short story a week, and want it to look polished, and Dreamwidth feels a little too personal blog.

I don’t use Wordpress myself, but my mom uses it for her Irish language blog and seems to like it, and it seems very good for a nice polished blog thing!

Recently I bought a domain name from Namecheap for my Neocities site. The problem is that the site now loads reaaaally slowly, and sometimes doesn't load at all. Is this a Namecheap problem, or a Neocities-with-custom-domain problem, or what? Could I, like...move this domain to a different domain registrar, and if I can, would that fix the slowness problem?

I just want my site to load fast, like other sites do. There's absolutely nothing on that site that should take any time to load. :c

I don’t know these companies in particular, but I’m having trouble picturing how a slow domain lookup would consistently make the site load very slowly. That information should get cached. Actually in general operation, the whole site should probably be cached, and not take a million years unless you make a point to dump your whole cache between every visit.

Maybe they’re having difficulty with heavy traffic loads for some reason. Though it’s still kinda weird.

Without actually looking at the network traffic, the things that spring to mind most readily are ads and scripts.

If you are blocking ads or more often ad serving sites, depending on how you do that, it can sometimes make the entire page take a long time to load as it waits for the request to the ad service to time out before loading the rest of the page. Since those are not usually static elements, they can continue to slow you down every time you load a page. If you are not blocking ads and the ad service is slow, it could probably do exactly the same thing but even more annoyingly. If you are or are not blocking ads, it might be worth trying the other thing and seeing if anything changes. (If you need a tool that will let you prevent a site from trying to connect to an ad server at all, but the fast way where it doesn’t wait for any connection to time out, Privacy Badger is a very good tool and pretty easy to use.)

The other thing is that if you have an easy way to disable javascript and it won’t totally break your own stuff, it might be worth trying that and seeing if it makes a difference.

Can someone please...explain to me how to clean hardwood floors...in a simple way that even I can understand.

My kitchen floors are a mess and it's seriously fucking up my mental health. Now I've got ten tabs of "how to clean hardwood floors the Right Way" open and it's just bumming me out more. They make it sound so complicated. I just want like...the dust mites...the bits of onion skin...the evaporated grease...the loose oats and pistachio shells...I just want all the Kitchen Grime and Detritus to be off of the floors...without me having to pick up the individual Grime and Detritus Bits off of the floor personally. And like, my handheld vacuum cleaner isn't doing it. So what do I do. What are the steps involved...

i sweep the floor first, then mop with a little Murphy's Oil Soap and hot water. something really stuck on might take a bit of scrubbing with a rough sponge. (i can break down the steps further if you need, but that's the basics.)

I'm stuck in my "I am shitty at every possible productive thing I could do" mood again, and I know I need to talk to someone in real life about it because they can better hold me to my promises to try and advise me on what specifically I'm doing wrong. I'm signed up for counselling, but there's a waiting list, and in the meantime I'm still miserable. Are there any free or cheap online one-to-one advice/counselling sites?

Are there any counselling sites where one can pay for one session at a time? I checked out a few and they're all subscription, and I can't afford that.
