People with more restraint and fashion sense, please help help a guy out

I bought the suit pictured on a whim and have no idea how to style it, given that I'm very much not slim n good looking like the model, and also very much not a bow-tie kinda person

    (I am a gold-boots-type of person, so that's ok.)

I'd like to not be a complete clashy mess for once.

I have no idea either (and I completely lack restraint) but I just wanna say that that is an excellent suit.

You could wear it as pictured, sans the bowtie, or treat the pants and blazer as separates, pairing them with a solid piece the same color as the background (brown? Black?) and a neutral shirt. Since the print has a lot of yellow, if you're feeling more daring, you could also pull this color for your other piece - like wearing the pants with a cream yellow shirt and a black/brown blazer/cardigan, or the blazer with a white shirt and mustard jeans. Or use yellow sneakers with a neutral everything else. The trick for bold prints casually is a) use a lot of neutral solids so it becomes a focal point of the look and b) choose a color in the print to wear somewhere else. That is how it is styled in the pic!

Like, you can wear the blazer over basically any bland outfit in coordinating colors and boom, you look instantly more put together and also like a fun person because of the print. I get complimented for my clothes a lot in uni while I'm in the same tee and jeans as my classmates but I wear structured jackets and nice shoes and suddenly I'm business casual.

Triple posting because I forgot: just make sure that the blazer fits you well in the shoulders - you can have them taken in a bit - because that is 90% of how good a suit looks. I have a tummy and am Somewhat pear shaped so everything that fits me in the stomach is too big in the shoulders and before I started paying attention to that I always looked a bit frumpy.

Thanks! I am pretty broad shouldered so tend to have the opposite problem tbh. I guess I need to shop for some plain formal shirts since 90% of my current wardrobe has a pattern of some description.

Try here; I believe they do post to the US. I've used them multiple times and can vouch for decent quality. Also has the option to search by perfume notes desired, which is very handy.

Edit: personal recommendation of Leaf Flavour, which is a ringer for Tom Ford Tobacco Vanilla, and Relaxed Scent for men, which is a spicy gourmand and strongly cinnamon.

I'm gonna rec Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab - while they def have floral, they have a lot of nonfloral options too, and most perfumes are available in tester size vials (called "imps") for $5, which is a pretty affordable way to try things out. Of the perfumes I own, Halfling and Snake's Kiss are both ones you might like, and here's perfumes with vanilla (the note that most frequently makes me think "food"), coffee, and tea (although this search does also pull up "tea roses," sorry.)

Although scents on that site always show the latest added product as category (wax melts in this case) there should always be a drop down menu under the picture allowing you to choose size -- in this case, product type. The wearable oils are roll on and spritz bottles, I generally go for 3ml version which is quite a lot! The oils are fairly concentrated.

Am I the only one who thinks a fully contoured face of makeup looks kinda weird in person? It looks fantastic in photographs from the right angles, but live it makes them look kind of uncanny valley.

@tickingnectarine do you by any chance remember what brand of pomade you were using / have a recommendation regarding pomade of any kind? I'm newly short-haired & a little adrift in all these slightly pricey options!

  17. What I’m currently using and have been liking a lot is Ace High’s black cat pomade. It’s an oil based pomade and it lasts quite a while- it’s meant to last a few days between washes, more if you avoid getting your hair wet. I’m still not out of the first tin of it. Plus it has a nice scent.

If you want to try something cheaper that you don’t have to wait to get in the mail, go to your local drugstore and see if they have any travel size pomades. I started with American Crew brand- their pomade is water based, so it washes out easy and it’s meant to be reapplies every day, which means it’s easier to experiment with but you’ll also go through it faster. If you stick with water based pomades, Layrite has a good one.

  19. I’m sure there’s some local options where you are. There’s also online shopping, and reviews oF course. Best of luck!

I tried on sephora's rouge lip tint and it was pretty good, does anyone have any other reccs for lip stain/tints that are less than $20?

I have also used burts bees tinted lip balm and i might go back to that. The goal is to put a neat colour on and not have it smudge as soon as i look at it, which is why im focusing on less opaque things

    Eta: fixed a word
