Achieved yesterday: threw 5 nondescript cereal bowls, using up the majority of my un-slagged B-clay (leaving just enough usable to pull some handles after I get my mugs trimmed)

Achieved Thursday-ish: Approved for medical assistance in MN... or possibly, approved to be evaluated for medical assistance in MN. There were lots of pages but they were mostly on the order of “If You Wish To Appeal” and didn’t detail a lot of what was actually being granted.

(I assumed I was going to have to provide some kind of hardcopy proof of residency, but that hasn’t happened yet.)

Also: Little sister started labor today, so I get to see my niece soon. :D

Met Sylvie for real yesterday afternoon. She is such a tiny fuzzy, and the least-squashed newborn I have ever met. Also, the fuzziest.

Cassie had a full head of dark brown hair when she was born, but then apparently it fell out and grew back blonde. Then turned brown again by the time she was 4 or 5. We will see if Sylvie follows in her fuzzsteps.

Cassie and Colin brought her home this afternoon, and we all went over to see her, and she is so squishy.

The original Star Wars was on the waiting room TV during the whole, you know, baby extraction process (which Cassie informed us was “terrible,” and then told us to get out) (Mom tried going back in, convinced that it couldn’t possibly apply if it was just her, which got her screamed at) (ftr we all told her that would happen.)

So anyway, I ended up entertaining my mom and Mandi (my twin sister) and Julie (Sylvie’s dad-side grandma) by reciting Star Wars trivia that I mostly didn’t realize I’d remembered until I said it.

My mom was the original Star Wars geek in the family, like, she was the one who got me into it to begin with, so it was really weird to me how little of the plot she remembered. We got to the bit where Obi Wan was explaining the Skywalker Family History (Revised) to Luke, and Mom was like, “Wait, I thought Vader was his father!” and I went, “He is,” and she was all, “But Obi Wan just said-“ and I said, “They’re the same person, Mom, that’s the big plot twist, remember?” and Obi Wan was all, “And my student, Darth Vader, killed your father, Anikin,” and I went, “You cut off 3 of his limbs and left him to burn to death in a lava river, Obi Wan,” and Julie laughed, so when the commercial break started I showed her Bushes of Love, and it was good except for how the hospital wifi decided halfway through playing it that it was Restricted Content and it wasn’t going to load anymore.

Anyway I’m totally going to get Sylvie into Star Wars. It is decided.

Cassie, I’m sorry, I’m totally gonna turn your kid into the fuzziest geekling.

Glazed too few pots today, for too ling, with not enough time left to do what I want with the rest, and since there are no chairs in or near the glazing area, I did it all standing. It took around 4 hours.

I am not used to standing that long.

However, I had no idea how fucking wiped I was gonna be when I got home.

I don’t wanna be this tired you guys. I had other shit I was supposed to do today.

Dreamed I put the cats in the toaster to warm them up, but apparently some part of my sleeping brain recognized that cats don’t go in toasters, because on seeing the cats in the toaster, I immediately became extremely distressed.

But I didn’t have enough logic running to figure out why I was distressed, so I just kept opening the toaster and rearranging the cats, who actually seemed pretty chill with the whole situation, even after the toaster caught fire.

I guess “toasters aren’t supposed to catch fire” isn’t quite as deeply ingrained in me as “cats don’t go in toasters” because it didn’t elicit too much more distress than what I was already attributing to the prospect of an unevenly warmed cat.

(I did eventually get the cats out of the toaster, but of course there had to be a huge anxiety dream to-do involving sliding toaster grates shoving cats out of reach and accidental burns and another cat that kept trying to climb directly into the fire.)

... The rest of the dream was Star Wars themed, and quite a bit more exciting and interesting to experience, but it didn’t really have a cohesive enough plot to be worth recounting in awake-time.

Apparently, Immediately Upon Waking Up is going to become a Thing until I manage to convince my insurance to start covering Xyrem again.

Anyway, today, immediately upon waking up, I:

Opened Google Translate English to Russian

Entered: “Help me, please! Those men have guns!”

(Помоги мне, пожалуйста! У этих людей есть оружие!)

(yes, i can read that. two years high school russian ftw!)

Woo, brain running a little manic-y today.

Dreams last night/this morning were again very vivid, with detailed, involved plotlines and worldbuilding. Will come back to that later, maybe, because it was, in my still slightly dream-addled opinion, super interesting.

I ended up making most of Thanksgiving dinner yesterday, on account of Mandi being busy holding the baby, and Cassie and Colin being busy taking a break from holding the baby.

The turkey and stuffing I made under Mandi’s direction, so technically that was a collaboration, and the gravy was mostly Mandi’s project, with the mashed potatoes being a joint project between Cassie and Colin, I also made pumpkin pie, whipped cream. and a side dish made with Brussels sprouts, apples and bacon that my mom attempted last year and which ended up simultaneously burnt and raw.

Oh, and Cassie and I made Pillsbury croissants, and in case she tells you they were burnt, be assured that she is wrong, they were perfectly fine.

Other notable things: Sylvie is still adorable, precociously coordinated re: head-holding-up, and becoming quite adept at the Foot Pushing Game; also, Colin, for some reason, decided to give me shit for using the term “serving platter” when I asked what sort of dish we needed to put carved turkey on; Mandi chimed in then and declared that it was a sign of Upper Middle Class Privilege that I had a dedicated term specifically denoting a dish meant to serve large amounts of food to many people; and I was like,

    “What?”

Thinking back, I’m pretty sure that was mostly bullshit, and Colin was just feeling defensive that he and Cassie don’t have a serving platter yet.

Dreams started out trying to work my way through character paths in a vampire-themed action/RPG game, decided this time I was going to try and hook up Intriguingly Angstridden Male Lead with the dude with the
bison head, then stumbled into what looked like a side plot about Those Pretty Water Ladies What Eat People.

Except then that plotline thing ballooned into this huuuuge... thing about mermaid society, biology, reproduction, economics and architecture, and the whole thing was just visually stunning and disturbing and weird and beautiful.

... I’ll put off going into that for a bit again, though, because I have more awake-time stuff to talk about.

So, I’m not entirely sure what got me on to this tangent, but today while I was doing laundry I looked up silkworms, and apparently they’re really easy to keep and breed? And unraveling silk cocoons for thread just looks extremely satisfying.

So, in my current still-dream-addled and slightly-manic-y state, I was all like, Yes! I shall buy some silkworms, and then I will breed silkworms and make silk thread and fabric on a loom, or maybe see if you can spin and combine it with alpaca wool grown by my alpacas on the little farm I’m totally going to have someday, and also I can Do Science to see how much of an effect allowing the silkworms to hatch before boiling and unraveling the cocoons really has on the end product, and ooh I can selectively breed them and select for traits like having a nicer post-hatching cocoon, OH SNAP there are silk worms native to North America? OH DOUBLE SNAP, ONE OF EM’S THE LUNA MOTH?!??? I FUKKIN’ LOVE LUNA MOTHS, I’LL BREED THOSE TOO!!!!

Anyway, then I looked up and was still living in a little house in the suburbs with no silk worms, no luna moths and no alpacas, and I was totally disappointed.

Today my sister came home sick, so I made her a food, and because I could, I made it pretty, then I took a picture.

Macaroni and cheese and broccoli and peas, with cheddar mixed in, and mozzarella shreds and bacon on top, then apple and cheddar slices on the side, and a cranberry muffin I got from the store today. Also, orange juice.

Yey fancy food out of unfancy ingredients. (I had some too. Was tasty.)
