Bless Matt for looking at the hostility of someone going 'how you ran this game (that you and all your players super enjoyed and found fun) was BAD and WRONG GOD ITS THE WORST it would SHAME the creator if they saw what you were doing' and not being mad, but seriously wtf

Like, arguably, the adventure zone does a v bad job of having the DnD rules as written, playing the way the creators expected it to be played. But it's still fun! The McElroys have fun playing it, we have a fun time listening. Going 'ugghh the ghost of Gary Gygax would be SO hurt by them doing it so wrong' would be so rude! That doesn't change between this and monsterhearts! Gatekeeping people having fun and sharing their fun doesn't get better if you're doing it for a queer thing and the queer people involved aren't the exact same as you and your friendgroup!

Also, like, it was the first time playing, and they didn't have access to some magical way of having played before? Of course there will be errors! They make mistakes with 5e, too! Mistakes happen! Everywhere, everyhow, all the time (and also Sonic)!

Anybody who's paid attention for even a little bit knows Matt Mercer absolutely fucking loves TTRPGs. He has such a passion for it he actively supports -- and encourages support! -- for the hobby, especially indie creators. To take that support and then turn around and get shitty about mistakes made in a new game he's fucking showcasing for you to literally thousands of people is so mind-bogglingly snobbish and rude to me, I don't even -- that makes newbies afraid to play at all, never mind playing your precious game.

And don't even get me fucking started on the queer rep gatekeeping. In what universe is having enbies not absolutely praiseworthy, considering they usually don't show up in anything, anywhere?

I honestly took the statement as being 'anyone who isn't gay is a fake queer'.

Frustrated with people bashing Adam Driver for his appearance? In general attacking people because of how they look, I feel, is tasteless

eta: like if u hate the character, whatever, but man a person just looks how they look

Yeah. Also, people shaming other people for being, like, attracted to him? That's also pretty icky feeling to see for me. There's nothing wrong with people who like how he looks any more than there's anything wrong with him for looking like he does.

It's a cheap, nasty shot. Like if you have genuine criticism of him as a person fine but don't rag on anyone for things they can't help. Or who they're attracted to come to that. Not getting it is one thing but being nasty to them over it is another entirely

I dislike the way I feel pressured to open up to people I don't even know in fandom about past trauma to defend decisions I make about fanfiction I'm writing for absolutely zero money and theoretically for "fun". No, random jackass, it's not that I don't care about this fic or ship, it's that it's associated with an abusive person I used to know and a deeply traumatic point in my life?? but is this really information that you need to have???????? I think not????????????

Submissive and masochist are not synonymous. Nor are submissive and bottom. There are like 5000 ways to be a submissive. And even then I don't care for the insinuation that my tastes in a character being a masochistic submissive means I and others don't understand trauma.

but also like really there are 5000 things submission can involve and more. it's not all ropes and whips.

Is this about Toilet Bound Hanako-kun, because I've been wondering the same thing...despite the show's opening being Like That, all my pervert friends are totally ignoring it, and despite it seeming totally generic otherwise, everyone I know who is super into it allegedly likes it for...something else...????

I am quoting this just because no other response could possibly convey my reaction.

I guess that's another point in the evidence column for "a lot of antis are actually into the same stuff they criticize." o_o

The cognitive dissidence antis have shown for that particular show just ...confuses me to the point of actual phycial pain. I don't understand. I don't understand! It's so obvious what genre the creator is both active in and -- not parodying, I suppose but subtly nudging towards? Look at it

Altho I suppose they probably do recognize their hypocrisy, consider how many times I've been blocked after pointing it out.

No, no, you see, if they like it, it must be good and pure and not shota at all. And if you see something shota-y about it, that must mean you're a pedophile, interpreting this definitely innocent anime as something dirty. So obviously the only possible response is to block you.

Fwiw, is there a chance that any of these fans are like...actually twelve? 'Cuz it seems like the kind of thing I probably would've been into when I was twelve (based on my limited understanding, as someone who watched the first five episodes and then dropped it). Like, I'm pretty sure I thought Len Kagamine was sexy at some point around there, or at the very least I had friends who did (damn you len). I figure that it's probably normal to be attracted to anime boys who look prepubescent when you're at the age that all of your IRL peers also look like that.

Not that that explains why it's okay under Anti Rhetoric for Hanako-kun to be drawn that way, considering that the person drawing him is certainly not twelve. But I'm not expecting super logical consistency from kids on the internet.

(...Actually, has anyone been calling out Vocaloid fandom for sexualizing Len? Or Crypton for creating Len to be the Token Shota of the Cast in the first place? That feels like the kind of thing I would've expected to see around, but I don't think I have...)

A lot of them don't give their ages outside of "I'm a minor" but all the ones I've seen are definitely late teens (16-19). I guess in their heads it's okay because they're not the ones sexualizing the character even if the canon does... they either don't see it/choose to ignore it or go on a purity crusade on how it's totally okay that they like it despite that unlike those dirty nasty proshipper freaks!

Also I have definitely seen antis attack people over Miku being like 14 so I wouldn't be surprised if that did happen. tbh though I don't think the vocaloid fandom proper is on much other than youtube? Miku just gets the "literal minor" treatment cause she's spread basically everywhere

A lot of us also disregard her age and The Canon because fuck you that is my popstar barbie and I make it what I so please. I didn't even know they had ages till I saw some antis bitching about it. Thankfully a good chunk of the fanbase doesn't give a shit because I mean.

She's a barbie doll that sings the llama song if you want her to.
