oh absolutely. The entire *gestures up to that whole essay* their relationship is complicated, and it's very much a relationship that struggles to find balance. There's a competitive aspect, and the fact that they're both keeping things from each other, and I feel like the shift from casual sex to actual relationship would get so much shit because 'oh no she's aro she can't love' when really the relationship isn't romantic at all even when they finally settle into it. But there's always that competitive angle because like...they like to push each other to do well, do better than before and I don't think the anti crowd would get that as much as they'd just decide that it was abusive. Or decide that Matt's issues with commitment aka 'oh god no' while also being desperately afraid of being left by people he loves would also get twisted into him using people instead of just...being that sort of complicated thing people can develop and learn to work with. And I feel that that comboed with the size difference would get all sorts of weird reads about who's 'in charge' of the relationship when really, it's...neither? They're equals? Honestly I would not want to see fandom try to figure out Matt and Dynas because I'm pretty sure 90% of them would somehow conveniently forget that Matt is phenomenally powerful and try to argue there's a power imbalance because Dynas is older and physically larger. Like, there IS a power imbalance, but it's very much in Matt's favour, both in terms of ability to hurt each other physically and political power.
yeah like. i feel that fandom at large would completly overlook that fact that currently? The only person who can theoretically go toe-to-toe in verse is like, one of the fae lords. Geme is a 'better' mage in some fashion, but she's still undead. Matt would need to really make an effort, but the fact remains that he COULD make that effort and have quite a bit of leverage over her. Like, he's still essentially holding dominion over the entire Greater London area. That's nearly 9 mil people and and nearly 1.600km² in area. Sure it's the undead of the city that really need to deal with that, but fact is, he can HOLD a territory that large. And if there aren't many undead around, he's essentially still a liege lord who can sling considerable power about and that's before we get into the like, political power he can try and involve if he starts calling in favours. Like, Dynas/Matt is 'Heir to the Throne shacks up with vagabound knight' and Dynas sure ain't the heir.
