what if...... dwarves are legit used to a different air mixture than surface atmo composition, stonesense (which allows non-surface dwarves to hear the Titans to varying degrees, if Origins codices are still canon) being accompanied by either physical differences or quasi-magical protection allowing them to survive on that altered composition
leading to not only psychological vertigo but actual physiological imbalance (eg dizziness) when stoneborn dwarves go to the surface
