That fun thing what happens when your favorite character is the less popular half of a popular pairing, where there's technically lots of content for them, but they are mostly treated as a fun accessory for the fandom darling.

Just saw yet another post doing this, so general pan-fandom gripe: people missing the point of "The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas." It's not a story with a single uncomplicated moral, but the single uncomplicated moral it really doesn't have is "all apparent utopias are secretly dystopias" or "you can't make a societal omelette without breaking a few forsaken-child eggs."

Omelas itself is half-hypothetical, and the narrator is inventing the details and inviting the reader to invent their own in order to be able to imagine the idea of a truly happy place. They explicitly add the abused child to the description because their audience still doesn't really believe, and afterward asks if they do now. It's a parable about the fact that there is no ethical consumption under capitalism and how people deal with their own complicity in the system, but it's also about the absurdity that we do have so much trouble imagining happiness without someone suffering for it. The point of the story isn't to say "don't trust beautiful cities having joyous summer festivals full of happy people" or "torturing children is bad" or "torturing children is fine actually," it's to leave you with a headache for a week thinking about social philosophy and ethics.

When people 'You clearly haven't read the books if you do this' when others are talking about how they like poly ships with Geralt, Yen, and Jaskier. Honestly this kind of behavior towards poly ships in general. I saw someone, who is poly, doing this shit and going 'Not everything has to be poly' basically. And it's like.

    Dude.

I can count the number of things involving a canon poly ship on one hand. I'd give more fucks about the precious canon if I could actually see myself in fiction. I can't though. And sometimes even when I can I don't get to see it healthily done.

The reasoning the person brought up is that Yen is possessive and then some other poly person brought up that, so long as people understood and there was communication, even that sort of thing can work out. Which honestly I think is part of the fun of poly ships? Finding out how exactly their arrangement could even work. Like I personally do a V thing with Edelgard as the one that both Hubert and the Professor are involved with. Because I can't really see the Professor being into him, personally. And someone else could have them all dating! MAYBE BERNIE IS INVOLVED TOO SOMEWHERE.

    the possibilities are endless

    :psyduck:
there's.... literally a canon short where she gets pissed off at Geralt and Istridd for assuming she only wants one of them, and another scene elsewhere where she outright thanks Dandelion for keeping Geralt as sane as he can be while she's not around
yes she can be possessive but :psyduck: :psyduck: :psyduck: and as you said, figuring out how the dynamic could work is??? part of the fun??? this take just confuses me so much

It's an extremely poor one. And it feels extra shitty coming from someone who is also polyamorous.

Also, WTF at the idea that someone can't be possessive about more than one person, in ways that don't set things off if those people also love one another. Every single part of this take is bad, and makes me slightly worried about what the person thinks polyamory actually requires (because a lot of people seem to think all jealousy is bad forever, which... isn't how emotional reactions work...).

I don't go here so I can't speak to this fandom specifically, but I personally get SO annoyed when people hail canon as gospel truth and if anything goes against it is wrong and the devil. ESPECIALLY wrt shipping. like. hello? did we all forget the "transformative" part in "transformative fiction"?

    Dear SU fandom:

No, Greg is not perfect. He is also not the scummy piece of trash y'all seem to want him to be, and him getting in the middle of Pearl's INCREDIBLY TOXIC relationship with Rose does not make him Satan incarnate. And while he is absolutely not a flawless parent, it's clear that his intentions were nothing but good, and that he's genuinely trying.

Fuck off with your Greg hate and let me stan the guitar dad in peace.

People being like "Greg denied Steven a chance to bond with his faaaaaaaamily" and blaming him exclusively for his isolation from humanity make me wanna pull my hair out because apparently a parent forcing their kid to interact with unsupportive and negative family members who most likely will try to take out their anger on the parent on the kid is such a good idea /s

...did they miss the giant stack of unopened letters, aka Greg trying to reach out to his parents and them completely freezing him out? After a childhood, adolescence, and young adulthood of them being intolerant of everything from his interests and self expression to, quite possibly (given Andy's early comments in gem harvest if we assume he's representative of the family and the comment about tacos if we take it seriously) anything that doesn't fit in a restricted, white-picket-fence-and-a-timeshare-in-Florida view of the world? Any ~family bonding~ before now would've been a mess of passive aggression over what a disappointment Greg turned out to be and how his kid was born out of wedlock with an alien.

Steven was in the worst possible place to get this, but if Greg had been anyone but his dad, Steven would've been behind him all the way. How Greg felt back then, and all this time, is the same as what Steven was singing about at the end of the show -

I don't need you to respect me, I respect me
I don't need you to love me, I love me
But I want you to know, you could know me
If you change your mind, mind, mind

and Greg's parents never did. They kept on living in their comfortable rut that has plenty of room for the memories of their kid when he felt stifled and unhappy and controlled, but none for the loving, creative adult he grew up into.

Yes, Greg should've gotten Steven to take actual classes and go to school and Steven isn't wrong to be upset that he never had that stability, but the parents DeMayo were not gonna give him that.

...also even Pearl doesn't really blame Greg for him and Rose getting together - it was all Rose's choice, and that's why it hurt so much. There was a whole episode with multiple really good songs about this!

It is frankly amazing the mental gymnastics a lot of the uwu pure fluffy sapphics uwu PearlRose crowd perform. I love the ship, but so many people get it wrong in that very specific way and also almost inevitably shit on Greg in the process. :(

My girlfriend/person-I-edit-for has apparently become a figure of some controversy in our new fandom... but it's all happening on Discord, where we can't see it. This is extremely problematic, how dare, put that wank on Tumblr so we can enjoy it too pls.

I looked at comments on a Youtube video talking about The Shape of Water and now my fandom gripe is people not recognizing extremely unsubtle metaphors.
