Tchaikovsky!! HERE is. . . the entirety of the ballet "Swan Lake", literally all the music is excellent, if you're up for listening to a solid 2.5 hours of excellent music in one sitting, that is, lol \o/ And something a little more palpable: Finale to Shostakovich's Symphony No. 5!!!! It's as fun to play as it is to listen to (I got to play that horn solo in the middle, basically made me glad that I never quit band. . .also there's this one clarinet bit in the same section that I personally feel is the literal auditory embodiment of "?????") The version I put here is really quite tame, normally conductors take it at a breakneck speed for some reason??? If that is ur jam HERE is a link to one like that, but I personally think that it's worth taking it a lil slower for Dramatic Effect

ive never been huge in opera but that is some good shit right there *__* handel is pretty much as classic classical as you can get :pp been listening to this one a lot, i have two albums of Rachmaninov on my iPod and ive been listening to him a lot lately haha rachmaninov prelude no. 5 in G Minor, Op. 23/5

Wow hi yes. So much. I play the viola so I love the viola. Also modern classical music. Stravinsky: Elegy for Solo Viola and Pastorale (for soprano & piano or violin & piano or a bunch of woodwinds) in addition to the usual Sacre du Printemps &c. are awesome! Yay rioting. But seriously, beautiful melodies at first and minor keys and dissonance when you listen again very good for projecting weird anxiety in a world of superficial normalcy. Duckworth: Have you heard of this post minimalist dude? If so, can we talk? The Time Curve Preludes are strange and interesting and mathematical. Prokofiev: The violin concertos and the visions fugitives, particularly 17 (poetico). Shostakovich: Symphonies 4, 8, and 15 are my favourites. If you don't like symphonies, the Piano Quintet, Op. 57 is awesome. Fun story about Shostakovich: he was so paranoid that he would sleep in the hallway, because he was convinced that Stalin would send someone to shoot him and he didn't want his wife to be woken up. Dvorak: Another awesome piano quintet, Op. 81. And uh also all the string quartets, including, of course, the String Quartet in F major Op. 96, or the American Quartet, which is awesome for classical music n00bs. :P And the New World Symphony! Bach: The Well-Tempered Clavier is nice for lying on the floor and listening to the master of counterpoint with not a worry in the world at the worst of times. As are the Partitas and Sonatas for Solo Violin. Clarke: Did someone say feminist? Or violist? Maybe I misheard you. Her Viola Sonata is breathtaking. Morpheus is also interesting. Ravel: The String Quartet. And the Sonatine. Chopin: The best recording of the Ballades is Zimerman's, in my opinion. The Sokolov recording and the Cortot recordings of the 24 preludes are the best. Cortot makes more than his share of errors but... oh dear me I'm tearing up... Debussy: The Suite Bergamasque and the String Quartet. Can you tell I like chamber music? Rachmaninov: The Etudes-Tableaux are my favourite. Op. 33/4 is particularly exciting. Yes, exciting enough to have a link. The Second Piano Concerto and the Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini are also great. Vladigerov: Does for Bulgaria what Béla Bartók did for Hungary. The Autumn Elegy is beautiful. And of course, Pancho is at his best in the Jewish Poem, Op. 47. ...I'm out of breath but those are among the big names on my list. :)

oh damn right after i posted that i remembered that that was not the piece i originally intended to post today!! so i am double posting today whoops so we started playing this piece in full orchestra in school two years ago, and let me tell u, what a fucking trip. that was when our horn section was at its largest and strongest with four whole horn players so we were so ready for those fucking incredible horn melodies unfortunately the trumpet part was deemed too hard for the trumpets we had at the time which was mega :((( but man what a fun fucking piece gustav hoist planets suite: jupiter (all the planets pieces are fucking incredible but this one is my fav, expect more holst though)

I have such a love-hate relationship with Beethoven -.- I went to a concert of French songs with my sis and the second half turned out to be his 6th symphony (which was a surprise, but actually worked really well in the programme.) Anyway it was gorgeous, and when it finished I said to my sister, "well...I really enjoyed that. But it was still stupid."
Okay so I'm looking for some choral music to post here because it's my jam and can I just shout into the void for a minute about every bloody choral recording on YouTube being the fucking Choir of King's College Cambridge, they are not that good, choral singing can be better than this
