i have minimal knowledge of how taxes work. i took a couple of business and accounting classes during my brief (quickly abandoned) stint with pursuing a BA bs two-ish years ago... ive seen taxes be filed at various stages of progress, i work a part-time job and signed a w-4 this past august if i move out and my parents continue to file me as a dependent for some reason (financial manipulation, maybe?), what should i do? if i continue to file my own independently, how will that affect us? will they be able to locate to which state ive moved? learn my marital status? any and all information is helpful :] i have too much going on rn to consult google and drown in even More tabs and superfluous information thanks in advance!
So, I don't really know anything about this and did my own brief google to see whether I can make sense of it: https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/3012924 seems to be a relevant link to the concept From what I can tell, if there's conflicting statements filed you might need to submit proof of things like residence, marital status, etc to the IRS, but I don't think there's any reason to believe this information would be shared with anyone else (such as the people filing taxes that contradict your claim). I am not an accountant/lawyer/doctor/etc, my only experience is filing my taxes via turbotax every time, I do not remotely pretend to know what I am talking about and so forth (but I do think the turbotax questions in general seem a good resource to focus on)
