Ooh, great idea! I don't have any particular pets myself, but I live with my family and we have three cats, a dog, and some goldfish (also goats, chickens, geese, and ducks, which don't really count as pets). Funny story about our cats: we've had almost a dozen over the course of maybe twelve years, and we've only ever bought one. About half of them were strays that just stuck around - my sister's actually acquired two cats after tracing them to their actual homes and being told by the owner that she can keep them - and one of our cats had five kittens before we got her fixed. To conclude, here is a picture of Tom Kitten (our latest acquisition) making an important business call. Spoiler
Bwaaaah tiny kitten! Here's a picture of my cat Spoiler: Gilroy That's him on my lap. The knitting he's sitting in is a full-blown blanket now, but he looks about the same. We got this guy at a shelter. I picked him out because he was so friendly he was practically falling off of the ledge he was on trying to nuzzle me. That, and he has four extra toes. He can pick things up with a front paw; it's kind of terrifying. He likes biting toes, biting hands, goosing people, knocking over water glasses, drinking out of the toilet, opening closed doors, and sitting on anyone who sits still long enough. This sometimes includes people on the toilet. He dislikes being ignored and being alone. At some point I'll take a picture of my brother's fish because it is the size and shape of a human heart.
We have four. First up, Fritti, who is the second youngest at 4 years old. Spoiler: My Fritti He's very loving, very greedy and kinda a brat. He weighs seventeen pounds but still thinks he's a tiny kitten who can leap and land on your stomach. Very snuggly, but totally on his terms or not at all. Hates being picked up. Loves doing things like clawing passing people on the butt, because he thinks it's funny. Grabs you and pulls you toward him if you aren't giving him enough attention. Steals food. Very intelligent, very tricksy.
I don't have a pet myself, strictly speaking, but my friend's cat is called Nepeta, because of course you will call a cat with green eyes Nepeta if you are a Homestuck. Unfortunately, this cat is very, very stupid. (She was born to a litter of strays and adopted from an animal shelter, so I assume it's probably, like, early infection or malnutrition or something. I don't think anyone dropped her on her head or anything like that.) She has a facepalm-worthy habit of sticking her head into your jacket or your sleeve or something, and then meowing because suddenly it's dark and she doesn't know how to get out. She also does not understand wet food: she will eat dry food fine, and she will drink water and tuna-can-drainage fine, but she will go awkwardly licking at the gravy parts of the wet food and never manage to eat the solid pieces.
Reminds me of a friend's cat (named Ninja, amusingly enough) who apparently likes to go running full tilt down the stairs, and is always Very Confused when he smacks headfirst into the wall opposite.
My parents have cats who I still consider to be my cats as well, because I can't have any in the student housing (booo). They are a white and grey striped female cat, and an orange and white striped male cat. We got them from the place where I go horseback riding. There are three mum cats there, and there were eleven kittens that were raised in this sort of giant nest, with all the mums caring for them :). We had lost our old cat in May 2014, and I was able to do all the cat snuggling I wanted when the kittens were born at the stables. My parents weren't really ready to get cats yet, but then one day my dad just gave in and we picked out two cats on the spot! We got Wiske (female) because she was the last female of the bunch (my parents wanted one of each) and I picked out Suske (male) because he climbed up the leg of my riding trousers :P They have been with us for at least six months now, and are mostly integrated. They don't really like to be held or petted when they are up and about though, and are a bit skittish. Suske does occasionally sleep on my bed though, and he loves being petted when he's half asleep.
my cat keeps trying to get in our garage. there's nothing interesting out there, she just tries to dart out every time it's opened, then immediately turns around once she's been out there for two minutes. sometimes she gets out and accidentally gets locked in there. i've gotten in the habit of making a "cat check" every couple of hours or so to make sure she hasn't ran in there. she also comes when you call her or when you whistle, and loves belly rubs. on the dog side of things, we've got a chubby pitbull who looks like jabba the hut every time she sits on the couch cause she's got a waaay above average sized chest for her size, like she's literally big boned, and her neck nearly dissapears in her wrinkles. she does the dog loaf thing when she sleeps. she's just over "medium sized" for a dog, and scared as hell of our tiny tabby cat.
That's adorable, and sounds like something Gilroy would do. Can you post a picture of your dog loafing or neck-disappearing?
I have a Loki-dog. He is the best dog in the entire universe and anyone who thinks otherwise is tragically wrong.
He's adorable! :D This was Minoes. She loved to sleep in my bed. The closer she was to your head, the better she liked it, and she used to regularly use my mother's head as a pillow for her to sleep on. She was sixteen when she passed and I still really miss her :( Spoiler: death She died of acute kidney failure, only three weeks after I moved out of my parents' house. She'd slept in my bed the entire previous Sunday. When I got home that Friday she wasn't feeling well, and my parents decided to take her to the vet on Saturday and she had to stay there. She was totally dehydrated :( They kept her overnight and then the vet said it was best to euthanize her on Sunday. Not good. :'( She was my best friend all through highschool and through college and my depression.
Thankfully, my parents have new cats now, though :D Who, like I said are a bit skittish, and not as cuddly as Minoes, but they're still great :) These are pictures from when they were tiny, tiny kittens: This is Suske, the male. And this is Wiske, the female :)
Ah! I knew there had to be a pet thread. Here are my dogs. Spoiler: Fluff They are a little shy, but very snuggly once they get used to you, and they like to lean on people and shed all over their pants. Their other hobbies include sleeping on the bed, long hikes in the woods, and staring soulfully at me hoping for treats. These dogs kept me sane through my PhD. Adopting them was the best decision I ever made. <3
Yay! Pets! Living alone in the US really makes me miss my two dogs. They're both taken care of by my mother so they're fine, but I wish my landlord allowed pets in my apartment! So anyways pics: Spoiler: Campeon The old gentleman here is Campeon. He's a street dog we saved from the streets in Venezuela. He's had a rough life and probably some form of trauma - he doesn't connect well with strangers and he hates children. For the rest he's a really gentle and shy dog, though, and now he's gotten really old. I think he's 15 years old now. Spoiler: Maoa Don't be fooled by her. Maoa is a bitch in every sense of the word, haha. She's jealous, attention seeking, selfish, and really over-active. She's much younger than Campi, I think she's three years old now. Maoa has some quirks I also have - she's left-pawed to start with, had a big butt, slightly OCD when it comes to having things in the right places, really enthusiastic, good with strangers but bad at 'reading' their intentions... - so because of that my parents occasionally confuse her with me. It's absolutely hilarious, and I consider her my future reincarnation. :) Also she's Polish, there's probably a joke hidden in there.
I technically only have one pet that is mine, a dog. One of my housemates has a dog and a cat though, but the dog spends all of his time with me and my girlfriend anyway, and is my dog's best friend. Her and I are pretty much all the pets' primary caregivers anyway since the housemate who owns them is disabled. My dog Chloe: Most often seen in this position.. she likes to pass out asleep on her back and then snore very loudly: She's a lhasa apso, possibly lhasa apso/shih-tzu mix (not sure), so her coat length varies. I usually get her groomed every 6 to 8 weeks to avoid her getting too scruffy and matted. My housemate's dog, Elijah: He's a longhaired blue merle chihuahua, which means he probably has some dachshund back in his lineage, so he's pretty big for a chihuahua (about 10lbs). Annnnd kitty, Spencer: She is very meowy.
here's seebs's mini-bear molly and my fluffy buddy hermes, winning at Synchronized Catting: when hermes wants attention, working is not an excuse. Spoiler: hermes helps me write hermes is a maine coon and a soft pet and a Goofy Beast and i have had many critters in my life but hermes is the best of a the bunch <3
This is Rhapsody. Found in her natural environment on the couch or upon a pillow like a princess. She enjoys chewing on trash, chasing vermin, and finding ways to drive me crazy. Spoiler: She has to be the center of attention Spoiler: She loves her Daddy a lot
