(Full title: A vampire, a shounen protagonist, a RWBY tribute, a puppy, and a SNK tribute walk into a bar; but that didn't fit in) So Sunday @IvyLB is like, I've got a fujoshi trash anime we don't need much brain for, and I'm like, oh hell, sign me up. I signed up for fujoshi trash and bishonen. What I got was a hot gay mess with a plot that is half playing stuff straight and half careening off onto less classic roads with that underlying feeling that the series is very, very self-aware, emotive and well-developed characters, and some awesome ladies and beautiful, dorky friendships between everyone. There is so much emotion in that series holy fuck. the imagery, the aesthetic, and the suddenly a million sides to this game has a dgm feel to it, but there's a lot less people to keep track of and the plot is slightly less confusing. and then i found out a manga exists, and light novels. (i looked at the anime, and all i can say about the opening is, this is so gay there's no way it isn't endgame, and then i looked at the manga and realized, the anime toned the gay down.) (and i just listened to ives liveblog them reading the manga into my skype window and im in stitches its glorious)
*plops fujoshi ass down in this thread* *sticks fangs in mouth* hi I'm literal vampire trash and gonna cosplay lord ferid :P (is2g the manga is so gay y'all)
It's also like. I'm not gonna lie the anime, for the longest time is basically twilight levels of trashy with extremely stylish art design and fight choreographies and a lot of gay subtext that's not at all even a little subtle (subtlety is not this thing's forté just sayin). But it gets surprising and full of suspense like basically right around season 1's finale with a few twists and a jawdroppingly executed sequence in episode 11 that i physically cannot shut up about but I don't wanna spoil this for anyone. The biggest strength this has is how expressive the characters are and how little it takes itself seriously whenever it plays the trashy vampire romance genre straight by the book. Also Shinoa. Shinoa legitemately lifts this from 'kind of amusing' to 'hilarious as hell'. Ya might wanna be warned if pedophilic overtones and topics like violence against children are triggery? The first episode has a lot of that.
I smelled the alluring scent of fujoshi bait and had to seek out my people. So this is a thing I gotta seek out, huh? Mission: accepted.
pls liveblog in here if you are up for it I live off of other people liveblogging stuff from my fandoms :3
