Since I have a very poor ability to recognize when I am being weird or crossing boundaries, I thought a thread to get other people's opinions on the matter might be useful, for me and anyone else who had this particular problem. The thing that spurred this is: I Patreonize a few folks, mostly people who are making indy games (particularly nsfw indy games) and I'm really into following the dev process of this one particular game. I saw that other people had provided feedback/suggestions to the dev (it's a one man show) and gotten positive responses, so I decided to leave some suggestions myself. First I opened with a complement, then asked if it was okay to offer suggestions. The dev wrote back to say thank you and that input was appreciated, so I replied again. Only I got carried away and made an entire pastebin article of things I thought would be cool to add. I closed with an acknowledgement that of course they wouldn't be able to implement most or even any of my suggestions, and that I didn't mind and just wanted to throw some ideas out and they were free to use any, all, or none of my suggestions. Then I thanked them again. It's been about a week and I have't heard a thing from them. They've posted some updates and carried on with development as usual, but now I'm worried that I overstepped some kind of line or made it seem like I was unhappy with the game or that my ideas were more important than their own plan for how the game should work. I haven't posted anything else to the dev forums, or sought to contact the dev at all, but it's been eating at me. Am I just overthinking things? (Link to the game consciously *not* provided because I can't handle the shame of associate with said game's content. >_> )
If it's one person and the thing you said was Long, it is possible that the dev just didn't have the time, spoons, etc. to read the whole thing and/or reply? (I am guilty of doing that sort of thing so much - I tell myself "oh I'll reply later when I have the time/wordsing ability/spoons/etc" and then just forget). It doesn't seem like you've committed a terrible offense I think? (that is the most confident answer I can give because I am not good at people)
Doesn't sound like you did anything rude/weird, especially since you specifically asked before making any suggestions. I do the thing @IndigoRiffRaff mentioned myself (putting something off until I have spoons, then forgetting about the thing), so that's a possibility. Also it's the holiday season - lots of people are travelling and visiting family and have pretty packed schedules, or are totally exhausted even if the holiday-ing has calmed down, so even if the dev is managing to keep up the usual Patreon content, they may not be up to reading and/or responding to your post in depth right now.
