that would be @rigorist, whom I know lives in Minnesota. (we do have another lawyer, to my knowledge, but ey're on hiatus.) however, I'm not sure if Rigs is qualified to give you legal advice if you don't live in Minnesota; I don't know where he's licensed.

    edit: whoops, ninja'd. :P

aight, you're all good then. :) I don't think Rigs specializes in the kind of stuff you want to ask about, and lawyers are hells of expensive, but hey, give it a shot.

those are probably different regional laws. can you find out what set of laws Etsy follows, maybe? and look those up?

edit: this page looks very helpful!

It's copyright law in this case. @Derpyteacakes wants to sell sewing/knitting patterns and needs to make sure she can without stepping on toes and such.

well, copyright law is very different depending on where you are/what place's laws you're following, but that page I linked ought to at least point her in the right direction.

@Derpyteacakes this says clothing patterns are a-okay, and these are more general policies re: selling on Etsy. as of right now I'd say patterns and plushies would both be a yes! and I bet you can ask a support person at Etsy or something like that.

Also if you're doing digital downloads of patterns you can sell on Ravelry and reach a slightly different audience.

my main worry is i want to make patterns for some of the clothes from pokemon (mostly x and y) and im not sure if thats allowed? this makes me think it it but im not sure. i also want to sell patterns to make plushies for pokemon and other charas; i know you cant sell the plushies themselves but im not sure if it covers patterns too?
