So I played this for a while with @chippit and it is fun! Low stress, lots of focus on crafting and gathering. Also has actual story, which is always nice in an MMO. Made by the same people who do Rift, I believe. I didn't realize the server I joined yesterday is about to get merged into another one for the 2.0 update that's dropping shortly, but an email I got about that update made me pick it up again! Had to start from scratch (heh), but that's okay. My adventures so far.
The process of raising a mount. Fed it. Watered it. Loved it. Danced with it. Now I'm a cat riding a cat. I named her Pounce.
There are a lot of potential class combinations in Archeage. I think 156? Mine is Trickster. Archery, Shadowplay and Witchcraft. I shoot things, stab them in the face, backflip away and then paralyze them so I can shoot them some more. It's relaxing >:D My mount can just travel with me, much like a Hunter's companion in WoW. She can also go in water, as depicted below, and swims while there! Better still, I can ride her in the water. Only one cat needs to get wet this day. I appreciate Pounce's sacrifice. Here's my character in an adorable hat. I don't really have any commentary aside from LOOK AT HER PRECIOUS FACE. Here's me gliding majestically. This particular glider came when I bought the game back before launch! I can stay in the air for three minutes with it. Sometimes I like to just climb up mountains and then pretend I'm a hawk.
It's fun! And very pretty. It has a very in-depth crafting system, which puts a lot of emphasis on trade and cooperation to get things done. It can take a looooot of time to achieve things, in that respect. There's a certain level of pay to play, but it can be worked around if you have the patience for it. For example, you can't place property unless you have patron status. But you can use in-game money to buy stuff called Apex, which you can use to buy patron passes! So far as I know, you don't need to keep patron status after you have a house or farm or whatever set up. Just need to pay your taxes! Which I can't remember how to do right now. But it's a thing! Also you can buy properties from other players if they've decided to sell their place for upscaling or something.
A couple of servers are being merged and the 2.0 update is being dropped. According to twitter they'll be up tomorrow some time.
I'll have to download this and try it sometime soon, but tomorrow's my first day of class so now is not the time xD
Mine is Hanure, North American server! Sorry I didn't see this sooner. This game gave me AI feelings today that I remembered and thought I had braced for. I was wrong. Ilu Amutar. One of my favourite places so glide that I've found. A dramatic elephant. I got a Griffin :D @lupadracolis helped me name him Rastafor. He's part of the bonus package I got with the merger ^.^ While he can't just jump into flight and flap freely, he can glide for five minutes, versus the two on my glider. He makes me very smol. Presented without comment.
I got a lil row boat! I love the water in this game a lot, it really captures the feeling of being out on the open ocean. There are tides and currents, and I've been to places IRL where the water is like this. GOSH THIS GAME IS PRETTY. And the open ocean makes me feel extremely small and insignificant and unsafe, just like the real ocean. I was chasing a quest objective, but it turned out to be in a cave beneath this mountain rather than on top of it. So, naturally, I had this majestic vista and the ability to glide for five minutes. Motherfucking majestic.
I started playing this game yesterday because I saw Kathy mention it elsewhere, and I love it already because it has a sidequest about reading to a cat.
Aw man, I'm kinda tempted to come back now. I was playing mostly for story, which... kinda forces you into group play up in Auroria, but it was still a really pretty game and I love the class system. I quit last November because my guild got hella PvP-focused and they were pretty much why I was hanging around, but. Hmmmmhmhm. Tempting. Starting over might be nice.
Welp. I convinced myself to restart. Firran on Tahyang for old times' sake, we'll see how this goes. Tahyang East was a cesspit last time I tried, but my alpha character was there so. We'll see. she is also named after my robit OC shhhh Spoiler: liveblogging WHAT IS THIS NEW INTRO It looks really great but also seems like it was scripted for Nuians?? There are voices??? oh boy oh boy I wanna go see if the Blue Salt Farmer Dude still sounds fuckawful I like that they're using the game engine for cutscenes, and also that there's a sea-combat tutorial now? But also I give 0 fucks about boat combat and I miss the old Firran intro :c and the pretty Firran narrator-voice. Who's this douchebag random vaguely-Nordic vaguely-Scottish captain dude?? Edit: Wwwwelp. We're back to "too pretty for computer to handle," crashed the whole damn system in the middle of a cutscene. 2: Okay, we're live again, liveblog continues. Spoiler Well, at least it didn't make me go through the whole first bit again. Missed the end of that cutscene, I think, but this looks like Auroria... :c I just want Haranya! Well that was the shittiest glider tutorial ever. This really feels like it was scripted for Nuians :|| Aaaaand crash #2, it really doesn't like the game-modelled cutscenes.
Spoiler: liveblogging continues Okay... total crash count: 3, all in cutscenes. My computer hates that captain as much as I do. Are we really going the dream-within-a-dream route? Really, Lucius? :| HARANYA AT LAST haaaaa the warehouse daru still speak Korean oh hey, there's actually a tutorial box for forming parties now! That's useful!
