Not sure where this would even go, but I guess this is at least tangentially fan stuff? So it turns out I've had an active Audible subscription for at least the past six months that I completely forgot about. So now I've got 6 credits for any Audible audiobook! Except I have no idea what to get! Can anyone recommend me some audiobooks? Bonus points for queer characters, fantasy, interesting sci-fi, books that you love and want other people to experience
i really like the audiobooks for the kane chronicles by rick riorden! the voice acting is good and bonus is that the books are supposed to be a transcript of an audio recording, so imo the audiobooks add an extra layer of goodness
THE DROWNING GIRL BY CAITLÍN KIERNAN. I have no idea of the quality of that but apparently there is an audiobook of it and I love Kiernan so fuck it. I really liked the readings of Masters of Doom and The Ultimate History of Videogames they have.
Goblin Emperor is real good, but the names and titles and shit can get confusing. American Gods has been interesting so far. The Night Vale book is weird and rambling, but I quite like it.
I've been devouring the Simon Vance-narrated (except for one David Thorne blip in the middle) Temeraire audiobooks. It's the napoleonic wars With Dragons! The first one has kind of a standard fantasy book "a boy an alarmed navy captain who didn't want to be an aviator and his dragon" plot, but they get more interestingly structured as they go on.
