Anyone else in here into book binding, paper making, marbling, paper cuts, etc? I mostly make tiny book jewelry, but I play around with sketchbooks and journals. I've dabbled in marbling a little bit and I really wish I had the space and time to dedicate to more of it. This is the kind of thing I mostly do: bitty little coptic book with watercolor covers
I love paper quilling! It's so cool looking and I hope that I can get into it someday My etsy is here, but it's a little bare right now because I haven't had space to take photos set up in my new apartment yet
I've got a ton of quilling paper but I'm waiting on chipboard right now. [sighing about glue warping and regular cardstock]
my mom used to do a ton of paper making!! we still have a bunch of cool handmade paper that no one knows what to do with, im thinking of binding it into smallish notepads at some point :"D also, i know a cheating way of marbling paper that doesnt involve hella space, if you're interested :P
ok so: you will need shaving cream and liquid watercolor and newspaper! HERE is a link detailing the steps with pictures, even though the colors they chose.....are godawful........but u get the idea :PP
I've found that you can make some interesting marbles just by floating ink on a shallow tray of water if you're careful, but the colors tend to be pretty faint. I'll have to try the shaving cream method, it looks like you might be able to get something a bit more vivid
I've had a productive week! I picked up some embossing foil so I could experiment with putting metal corners on mini book covers. I'm also playing with some ideas for pendants inspired by the old chained libraries of Europe. When these are finished they'll be 1.25 in tall.
Those mini books are adorable. I like those set pieces artists make with the dolls and the tiny furniture, tea sets, paintings, etc. These books would fit right in.
:soft wheezing at adorable books, camps: I've always been wanting to try paper making, and binding the product in some way. I'd love incorporating wildflower petals and clovers and leaves into some. If I ever got the chance, I'd love to go to a place that makes washi and get my hands dirty too, it always looks so... I don't know how to describe it, but the texture of washi makes my brain happy.
i brought up paper marbling to my mom yesterday and how i wanted to dabble in it again and my mom immediately went off like "omg yes ok so we need this stuff and this stuff and this stuff and...." and i was like "?? shaving cream tho?" "pffffpfpfpfpt noooo if we're gonna do this we're gonna do this RIGHT" and im just :D marbling
So here's a question: has anyone tried making their own playing cards or similar? I was struck the other day with a sudden need to make a tarot deck and I'm trying to figure out what the best way to go about it would be. I want to do a watercolor wash on both the front and back, so I need to either find a paper that will accept a double sided wash without buckling or do two sheets separately and glue them together and still be thin enough to handle well Possibly either bristol board or two sheets of strathmore drawing paper, and then mod podge to seal it? I'm kind of leaning that way because it's what I have on hand and I don't have a ton of money to spend.
I have done a couple of test cards! I used watercolor paper and matte mod podge I love the look of how they came out, but I feel like they aren't quite firm enough and I also think doing a solid color back instead of painting them on both sides is going to work better So when I get home today I'm gonna try again with a layer of drawing paper and one of black pastel paper, because it's stiff and thin. Progress! Now I just have to finish designing them >.< Spoiler: Giant picture
