With the release of Civ 6, I recently got back into the Civilization series. So! Civilization!
(Maybe we can get a huge game going, if people own it? I'd be up for a big pitboss game, I know we're all in different timezones but we could have it be join and take your turn)

aaAAAAA i impulse bought it and it's really fun but i'm not good at it at all ):

trying for a science victory because i heard it's easiest (and playing as peter because i heard he's easiest for that) and i'm stuck in 3rd place

It's okay! If you're really struggling, then on your next game try turning down the difficulty.
The difficulty of victories really depends on your playstyle. Usually science victory is easiest, but domination can be slightly easier if you're very militaristic. Religious is quite hard and not usually worth it, and cultural is really just a crapshoot.

yeah i came into it with the mindset like "explore the map! build settlements! freeform game! yay!" and then england fucked my shit up

i might switch down to the lowest difficulty though, yeah, because i have managed to piss off every single leader i've met

The Civ series is a bit unforgiving to newcomers. This one especially. But once you get the hang of it it's incredibly fun.

Civ V is my personal Civ jam. I never win (especially not when playing against my partner, who is ruthless) but I have fun. We've talked about getting VI, but we're probably going to wait until there's a bundle with the basically inevitable DLC that'll come out.

I'm way too haphazard and I don't plan enough, I think.

Ayyyyy a Civ thread!! I was thinking about starting one but didn't get around to it. But now there's a thread!

I may or may not have stayed up til 3 am playing Civ 6 last night, haha. Ha.

Anyways I have so many things to say about Civ. So many. My dad introduced me to it when I was... 4, I think. 5 at most. Either way one of my first memories is playing Civilization: Call To Power (which is sorta off-brand shhhhh it's still really good, what other civ game is designed to go to 3000 AD?? and has accompanying futuristic techs?? (i mean Alpha Centauri and Beyond Earth have futuristic techs but they START in the future ok)). So Civ was basically one of the very first actual, non-kiddie videogames I ever played, and I will probably play it for the rest of my life.

Anyways at this point I've played pretty much every Civ game except Civ 1, probably? I don't really play any of them anymore except Civ 5, occasionally Beyond Earth, Alpha Centauri, and now Civ 6. (It's funny, I got 4 on Steam sometime this year but it feels so strange now after so long not playing it...)

I like Civ 6 a lot, despite having found a laundry list of glitches/issues in only 2.5 games so far. I'd totally be up for a Civ 6 multiplayer! Either a simultaneous multiplayer or a pitboss type thing.

Oh, and I nearly forgot to add - in turn 24 of my second game in Civ 6, Gandhi starts talking to me about nuclear deterrence. Hmmm, I wonder what his hidden agenda could be...

(literal quote: "There is no shame in deterrence. Having a weapon is very different from actually using it." In the Ancient Era. Love this series.)

Also yeah, the Steam Holiday sale is coming up soon, so if Civ 6 is on sale during that, GET IT.

And also, the thread is called "sogno di volare" because that's the name of the menu theme to Civ 6 and I adore it

    Hey!!
I played Civ 3 as a kid, I loved it but I sucked at it. I want to play again but from what I've seen of Civ 6 I'm not sure I'd really like it. It seems like it's getting a bit too messy for me, you need to take care of too much stuff I think. Or maybe I was just not paying attention to too many things as a kid, heh.

What would you guys recommend? The parts I liked the most were tech expansion, reaching achievements, and just feeling like an awesome country. Do you think I should get back into it?

-peeks in- If you haven't already, I strongly recommend the playthroughs (both of civ V and VI) by Marbozir for good watchings. He's a very skilled player- virtually all his Civ V are Deity difficulty (the hardest), and he's working his way up there with VI. He's very thoughtful and informative with how he plays/why he makes the decisions he does, makes me crack up occasionally, and I find his accent (Polish) pleasant to listen to. (Most of the reason I don't do a lot of LPs is the talking of the LPers grates on me.)

@evilas It's funny because Civ 3 was actually my least favorite of the Civ series as a kid - no idea what my actual issues with it were, though :P

In any case, you could consider waiting for the Steam Winter Sale - Civ 6 probably won't have a huge discount, but you'll probably be able to get Civ 5 (which is fairly similar to 6) for pretty cheap. That could mitigate the "not sure if I'll like it" issue?

Oh, ok. That's a good idea.

@evilas Steam Autumn Sale is going on now - Civ V is $7.49 right now, or there's the Civ V Complete bundle (which includes all DLC, including the two major expansions) for $12.27.

(A bunch of other Civ games are on sale right now as well, from III all the way up to VI, although the latter is only 10% off so it's still like $54)
