i love how the rhyme scheme in the chorus works? it’s a simple aabbccdd rhyme scheme BUT the way the lyrics are divided up is interesting to me:

“and when you wake up you can feel your hair grow
crawl out of your cave and you can watch your shadow
creep across the ground until the day is done
all the while the planet circles ‘round the sun
everybody knows
how this goes
so let’s get over it
and let’s get this over with”

just...idk if i’m making sense but!! it’s so cool!!

there is such a cool one in this song.

MORE ON RHYME SCHEMES IN TMBG SONGS: i love the internal rhyme scheme of the opening lines here.

“i got handed an ayn rand sandwich
straight from the can, it tasted so bland
i asked a lass to pass me a glass
of engels’ conditions of the working class”

which is aaaaabbbbb! that’s super cool imo.

ALSO VERY GOOD: the chorus to a self called nowhere!

it’s a thing named it in a bottomless pit, you can’t see it there
the sunken head that lies in the bed of a self called nowhere”

first off: danny has such a gorgeous voice.

secondly: this might be my favorite cover of all time.

finally, a cool thing: danny didn't realize the chorus of the original was sung by two people. he sang both parts himself. just...what an amazing vocal range?? so fucking good.

seriously, this album is so fucking good.

i HIGHLY encourage you to listen to the album in full--it's around an hour long, but it's the best hour of music i have ever heard, and it is VERY worth every single minute. here are some highlights though!







(that last one is quite possibly my favorite song ever. i'll ramble more about it, and probably about john henry in general, later!)

 

i don’t have much specific to say about it (except that i probably should not listen to voicemail for jill again bc it made me cry both times i did and frankly i’m amazed it’s the only song i cried at), but there will be no intermission by amanda palmer is really good

not my favorite of her post-dresden dolls work but still really good

(plus like...she’s naked on the cover, i am here for that)
